I made an avatar for this forum, and uploaded it to ImageShack.

I went all the way to the page where it's only the image, and when I enter the URL in the User Control Panel at Tip.It Forums, it says

The URL you specified is invalid.

Please help me.

Thanks in advance.

You need to use the direct URL, not the one that has an '=' sign in it, can't remember what they call it, might be 'show your friends' or similar.

Re-upload your image and click the little link at the bottom of the links to expand the list, there will be the direct link there, which will work.

It's the one below "Show your friends." The "show your friends" URL does end in .JPG but take a look:

Show your friends URL: http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 438ed1.jpg

  • It has random ads and stuff, so it probably won't work as a Tip.it avatar. I'll bet that this is what the OP tried to use and the one that you alluded to in your post.

Advanced Link (direct link): http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/3879/88199438ed1.jpg

  • This one, on the other hand, is just the image.

So yeah, below the "Show image to friends" option, click on "Show Advanced Linking" and copy and paste the "direct link to image" URL.

And if all else fails;

?Right click on the image you want, and select properties.

?Copy the Location

?Paste it in the text box for avatars.

Not if it's an image you've created and it's sitting in your hard drive.

Besides if the image has been linked using the 'show your friends' link, right clicking>properties will show that same link, not the direct one.

I just used tripsis's "Show your friend"'s link and for me that gave me the direct link...

And i assumed that the image would be uploaded anyway.

When linked to the Imageshack page it gives you the direct link. I slapped some tags on Tripsis's photo, as the show your friends link, and it still does show that link in the properties field. Although the image doesn't show up.

Aw great... I tried changing the file type when entering into Tip.It from .bmp to .jpg, and I didnt get the "The URL you specified is invalid." message. Instead I got the message about the size.

Now I just realized that my picture is 413 by 349 pixels... so now Im going to try and make a new avatar, but with a different idea.

When I finish it and try making it my avatar, Ill post any problems I encounter with in this thread.
