Well, currently, I have 2 harddisks, which is the max my motherboard allows, in terms of cabling stuff.. 2 Spots for IDE cables, which means one for my cd/dvd burner/player, and one for my 2 harddisks..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now it happens to be, that one of these harddisks is extremely old, but has windows on it.

 

 

 

I have a replacement ready, which I can install windows on.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now my question is, can I just replace the old one with the newer one, and install Windows on it?

Yeah, you can do that, but you'll have to reinstall all your programs again (even if they're on the other hard drive).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You could also get an IDE or SATA card. They're about $20 (?) and can give you extra IDE/SATA ports, and you can just addon an extra drive. That will use up a PCI slot, so make sure you have one to spare.

a better idea is to get a usb case (whatever they are called) for the hard drive. Basically it turns a regular internal hard drive into an external USB 2.0 hard drive. Very handy to move files around or just leave on ur computer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

btw since its an old hard drive its even better because with usb 2.0 you wont be able to tell the difference and its portable...all for around the price of a hard drive controller card.
