LOTS of questions about my Armored mage setup *F2P*

Ok i have a few questions

 

 

 

This will be my setup for an armored mage

 

 

 

Head: combat hood

 

Neck: ammy of magic

 

Body: rune chain

 

Leg: combat robe bottom

 

Boot: leather boots

 

Glove: leather vambs

 

Weapon: air staff

 

Shield: rune kite

 

Cape: cape -red-

 

Ring: explorers

 

 

 

Runes:

 

Chaos (for teleblock when i get it)

 

Death (fire blast)

 

Nature (bind)

 

Fire (fire blast)

 

Water (bind)

 

Earth (bind)

 

Law (for teleblock when i get it)

 

 

 

 

 

+8 mag atk

 

+~120 def

 

 

 

1st. is 85 magic really worth it (for teleblock), and if yes would getting 82/83 and using a wizard mind bomb a good idea?

 

 

 

2nd. Should i stick with a rune kite (pro: more def, con: less mag atk, 2x price) or use a rune square (pro: more mag atk, 1/2 price, Con: less def)

 

 

 

3rd. Should I bother with body rune spells (eg. curse, weaken)

 

 

 

4th. Should I bring a melee weapon? If yes which one? dagger, scimitar, or even 2H?

Grats on aiming high for mage! i myself have 80 mage. im not sure if cursing is good, and im mem, so i may not be able to help much. teleblock is definitely worth it, i only wish i had it... noobs in rune who wont lose their stuff tele away right when im about to kill them. anyways... as for melee wep, i reccomend a rune scim, or possibly r2h if u want power more then speed. gl with mage! :thumbsup:

Well, what do you plan to do as an armor mage? If you are pking/warring, your best bet is probably to hybrid with melee armor. I would take full druid with staff, rune kite and rune gloves, amulet of power, and whatever boots for warring in cwa while having a full set of rune armor in invo.

 

 

 

If you are pking and want to risk fog robes, take the same setup except replace rune glove with green vamps with rune plate and legs in invo.

 

 

 

If you do not want to risk, a popular choice is either uncharged fog robes/rc robes/combination of monk robes and mage robes with rune armor invo.

 

 

 

85 mage is very well worth it as it enables a clan to get a kill in every multi-areas. I would get it myself except I hate mage with a passion, so is probably going to take me sometime.

 

 

 

Also potting up with bomb is not a good idea since it last for such a short time, I wont recommended it. If you already have 82+ mage, might as well get 85.

PS: I missed a couple of the questions.

 

 

 

Never bring a melee weapon as a mage, you need as many invo space for food as possible, and with all those runes you are already losing about 3-4 invo of food. Also mages were meant as an aide to pking such as binding, cursing does help but bind is only the really important function as a mage, that and teleblock. I would not bring curse runes since you will spend a lot of time binding.

 

 

 

PPS: Oh I just remembered another reason for not bringing a rune scimitar, a mages biggest job is to provide constant bind, and you will need as many mage bonus as you need. The staffs +10 mage bonus really helps in that aspect.

 

 

 

PPPS: I would use rune kite since the negative mage bonus is so small, but if you want to welfare, then use rune square.

If you don't have teleblock, then you'll have to have a rune 2H for KO's (if you want to actually kill anyone, lol). I'd swap out the hood for a rune med helm or even a wizard hat.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Especially in f2p, teleblock IS worth it.

 

 

 

Don't bother with bind. You'll only get in like 1-2 spells in that time.

 

 

 

And yes, you probably should bring a melee weapon, just in case.
