Worthwhile Improvements

(This was my post taken from the Runescape Suggestions forum. It was sort of like a letter to Jagex.)

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

To be completely honest, I've become frustrated with Jagex lately. I still love Runescape and play it regularly but there are so many things in the game that are just no fun at all. And they're all unnecessary things that can easily be fixed with a few small updates.

Now, some of these ideas are not so easy, but they will increase user-friendliness within the game. THESE ARE NOT ALL MY IDEAS! I AM NOT TAKING CREDIT FOR ALL OF THEM!

Jagex, please listen to these. Some of them would be SO easy to fix, and would make some aspects of the game a little less tedious. Games aren't supposed to be frustrating to play. They are supposed to be fun. My main rant, piling everything into one sentence is: Stop adding to the game and fix it. The new updates are ok, but they arent changing the game for the better.

1. Exp 'UNTIL' Next Lvl

When a player scrolls over a skill, they see " Exp" and "Next Lvl At." This has always bothered me. Anytime a player looks at that information, they want to see an approximation of the exp they have to get to gain a level. So Jagex, why not just tell us? Let me use this analogy. You're driving to New York. You see a sign that says "You have driven 25 miles so far, and you will have driven 100 miles when you get to New York." How crazy would that be? Very. Why doesnt the sign just say "75 Miles to New York"? Exactly. The exp information should be the same way.

2. Easier Way To Fill Vials

One of the most un-enjoyable things in the entire game. Dying in the wilderness and losing all of my armor is better than filling vials. Make some way to "Fill X Vials." I don't care if it takes just as long. Just don't make me click so much. It's really tedious and annoying. I don't mind watching my character fill each vial individually. I don't mind the length of time it takes to fill the vials. I just can't stand all the clicking. It's making me dislike Runescape more and more everytime I have to fill vials. Please do something. Filling vials gives 0 exp. If filling vials gave exp, I wouldn't mind all the clicking, but since it doesn't, I suggest you make it a little easier on the wrist. I don't have a problem with cooking. Because it gives good exp.

3. Smith X, Please

This is another thing that has always bothered me. The most you can smith at once is 10. Why isnt there an X option? The 10 limit is ok for people smithing things that require 3 bars or higher but what about those arrow head smithers? This isn't that big of a deal, but why not? Why stop at 10? Doesn't make much sense to me.

4. X, and All Only

Excluding shops, the only options there should really be are "X" and "All". Example: Smelt X and Smelt All or Store X and Store All. That should be it. This doesnt really make much of a difference to the game but the 5 and 10 options are rarely used. When do you ever have a full bag of iron ore but only want to smith 16 of them?

5. A Market (Ran by NPC's)

Jagex, have you ever tried to do any trading in Falador World 2? It's a gigantic headache. I would suggest a big outdoor market place for us. Like a big stall ran by NPC's. We would add our items (along with a price) to this stall and ALL players could see what we're selling, and buy it right from the shop. The money will go directly to the other player. This would seriously help out.

6. In-Trade Chat

If you're not going to add #5 (I don't think you would.), atleast add an In-Trade chat so that the 2 players won't have to try and negotiate through all the other public chat messages. It would be a small box somewhere in the trade screen. Just you and the other guy. A small update can go a long way.

7. Follow Allow On/Off

Please allow players to choose whether or not they would like other players to follow them. OR connect following with ignore, so that if a player is ignored, they can't follow you.

8. Longer Auto-Logout Time

A minute and a half is just way too short. Please, I'm not asking you guys to remove the auto-logout completely. I know that its for lag reasons, to keep people from just staying on all the time and slowing down servers. But please make it atleast 2 or 3 minutes. 90 seconds is very annoying.

(And for the people who I know are gonna say the auto-logout is for autoer protection: NO IT'S NOT. AUTO-LOGOUT DOES NOTHING TO STOP AUTOERS)

9. Less Censorship

Please fix the word censors. It blocks too much stuff that isnt even bad. Why can't we say paccword? <--(Notice how easy it is to get around the censor). Also, you can say cheated but not cheet. Its just really dumb, and a lot of times it messes up and blocks things by accident and in some cases you can't even say someones name. (If you're not going to fix the censor, atleast have the option to turn the censors on or off.)

10. Remember Combat Settings

I can't tell you how many times I've been disconnected while training combat, to log back on and forget to switch my style back to strength. It's very annoying, and it can mess up a player's combat training. RSC remembered our combat settings, why not RS2? (This wouldn't be as big of a problem if the auto-logout time were increased by a few minutes.)

11. A Sell All or Sell X Button (NOT BUY)

I can see why you should have to BUY things in incriments of 10. But I do not understand why SELLING things should take so long. Lets say I've fletched 20,000 unstrung willow bows. And I would like to get rid of them but at the same time make a little cash. The problem is I've got to click...let's see...4,000 times! (Right click, then left click 'Sell 10'). Jagex, this is bad. This makes the game tedious and frustrating to play. AGAIN, BUY ALL WOULD NOT WORK. I AM AWARE OF THIS. But SELL all is needed.

They seem to be well-thought out ideas. I especially like the in-trade chat box. I don't trade with anyone not on my friends list for this very reason. (So that when trading, we both switch public chat to friends, so we can see negotiations).

It would make negotiating a trade much easier than one person yelling:

Seller: "Selling X for Ygp"

Buyer: "Buying X"

Seller: Offers trade

Buyer: Accepts trade.

***Trade Screen***

Seller: Offers item X, or the amount of X they are selling.

Buyer: Offers items and gp, or items only.

Seller and buyer then try to negotiate in the trade window, but 90% of their text vanishes before they can read.

Result: Seller thinks buyer can't read, buyer wonders why his offer was turned down. Both people now don't like the trade system.

Lets hope something gets through :).

Raichase, quit Runescape.

Time issues really, nothing against the game itself. Something had to go, and it happened to be the addictive game that costs money to enjoy :)

Best of luck to all of my friends here!

I agree with your ideas except for the market one. I know it sounds good, no more need for yelling and getting a headache from trying to read all the simulataneous messages but you wouldn't be able to barter anymore or try to bargain with people......I know that's one of the annoying things but it comes in handy if you're good with words :P Maybe people could have their own places to stand in a market place where only 1 person per square could stand and there were paths. Each of the players would have a stall advertising 4 items above their heads whenever you put their cursor over them. That way you could focus on what you wanted. If there's a flaw for it I'm sorry. Anyways that's just my opinion but some of those ideas that you mentioned would definitely make life a lot easier.

Yes, a compilation of the most wanted suggestion and some new ones, but i got some things to say:

4. X, and All Only - yes, this could be useful, but, i think you've said it somewhere, not for cooking. because if you get a "cook all..." button, its free xp for everyone.

9. Less Censorship - yes, we need this, but let me say something a little bit of topic. I saw this sugestion many times, but i never saw ppl who don't have english has a 1st language to complain. At least for my language (portuguese) theres a lot of comon words that get blocked.

Only 1,9,6 and 11 are the only ones actually required. The whole vial thing is basically just free xp for one of the hardest skills to raise(herblore)since someone could just stand there emptying and refilling the same vial.Besides, theres a reason that the ardy general store exists.

What skill would filling a vial with water raise if it did give experience? I can't think of one that would make sense, unless there's a new skill "container filling" which means you'd get experience filling buckets with milk, sand, compost or water; jugs with water; vials; etc.

Then, there would be level requirements. I.E. You have to have level 10 "container filling" in order to milk a cow.

Sorry. My sarcasm blocker isn't working right today. I guess I need to return it for a refund.

Now here's an idea that would help fill your containers - New spells:

Nature + water: Fills all containers you are holding with water.

Nature + earth: Fill all buckets you are holding with sand.

Nature + chaos + earth: Fill all buckets you are holding with regular compost.

Nature + death + earth: Fill all buckets you are holding with super compost.

Nature + body: Fill all buckets you are holding with milk.

Nature + death + water: Fill all buckets you are holding with ecto-funtus.

And, just for fun:

Nature + air: Empties all containers you are carrying (i.e. fills them with air).

Have I missed anything?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but, I am not sure you realize tht what you heard is not what I meant.

No, you're wrong indefinetly on Number 1. Think of this:

Is that number after "Next Level At" the amount exp you STILL need for the next level, or the overal exp you need for the level? Exactly. By saying "Next level until," you're only pushing the extremeties of the odd sounding nature even further. Since you don't need 13 million MORE exp to get from 98 to 99, it shouldn't say "until." I think you're just trying to pick at something that is a pet peeve...and if Jagex tried to fixed pet peeves for everyone, not only would it take forever, but fixing one peeve could cause someone another.

Now, to your "All" option, I agree it'd be ok...but this makes me a bit mad. Why when this dude posts it does it get recognition, but when I make the statement, I get told it's irrelevant and to just "press the x button and type in a number"

The rest are ok ideas...just...kind of not really needed more than some other things, in my opinion.

i very much like 1. it is not a pet peeve because many will tell you that when training on a large scale or very quickly it is a good thing to know how much exp is needed for the next level. it really puts a dent in your training if every now-and-then you have to whip out a calculator, turn on the calc on the computer(go to start-all programs-accesories), or if you are like me do it in your head. i like the others especially 8 except for 3 4 and 5. smithing is good where it is at as(to use your example) if you are smithing arrow heads then it takes a while to smith as only 10 bars at a time, you are getting 15 heads or 5 knives or something else. your sacrafice for getting more than one item per bar is haveing to click more. also i use the 5 and 10 withdrawals very much as u wanted to change in number 4. they are very usefull in doing business. and in number 5 that is just a flat bad idea. i dont understand why people try to sell stuff in the square because if someone finds a item being sold that they want if they didnt come prepared to specifically buy from the square they have to run all the way back to the bank. otherwise i like your ideas especially number 8
