Omar Posted March 12, 2009 Share Posted March 12, 2009 ClearType is turned ON, notice the choppy edge on big text and the smooth edge on small text. ClearType is turned OFF, the large text is no longer choppy but the small text is. I'm running Windows XP and I have an HP LCD screen. I've tried changing the settings using the power toy, in vain. Is there an alternative to ClearType available that won't have such a strong effect on large fonts, or something I might have missed in the settings? Thanks. :) Matt: You want that eh? pryomancer Posted March 12, 2009 Share Posted March 12, 2009 This choppiness is caused by aliasing, it doesn't 'smooth' the text out, so it appears pixelated. Anti-aliasing is the 'smoothing' of the text. I'm not sure how cleartype works, but look for an anti-aliasing option, it should fix it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Cleartype antialiasing is done subpixel by subpixel (one RGB stripe at a time). That gives you a smooth edge with small text, but it's ugly on larger text.... Matt: You want that eh?
