How do I get on that darn plateau? I've looked everywhere and the guide dosn't exactly help.

you have to kill a mighty banshee then use the voice on the barrier.

You have to go to the southern edge of the desert, east of Sophanem. From there you'll go east until you get to a marsh. Then you'll go through the marsh, and the way onto the plateau is there.
