In the section about strategies, it says "Remember that here, unlike Castle Wars, set effects such as Barrows and Void can be used. Arguably the most useful set is Verac's, because it has a chance of ignoring your opponent's armour"

 

 

 

You can now use barrows sets in castle wars after a quest I think.

I think you're confusing the feature that Soul Wars offers after Animal Magnetism (the team capes become accumulators), as I really don't know of any possible way to use sets in Castle Wars.
