October 26, 200916 yr This is a copy of the thread I put on the RSOF, but it didn't get much response. I thought I would post it here to see what you guys have to say about my idea. Quickfind Code: 81-82-879-59639860 When Jagex removed pvp in the wilderness in 2007 they attempted to fill the void with bounty hunter, and then they continued to try and replace wilderness pvp with pvp worlds and bounty worlds. I think Jagex missed the mark with all of these updates. None of these updates accurately replicate the excitement, team work, and possible profit that the old wilderness pvp had to offer. I think the best way to replicate the old wilderness would be to make a pvp system based on points which can be traded in for untradeable armor rewards (the amount of points needed per reward and what awards would be offered would be decided by jagex). This new pvp system would be safe (you keep your armor when you die), but you would lose one point for dieing, or gain two points for killing an opponent (the ratio of points does not have to be these exact numbers). This mini game would also contribute to profitability by providing all needed supplies including: food, potions, arrows, runes, and other consumables commonly used in pvp. To insure the free consumables would not be overpowered, this minigame would offer zero exp. An additional restriction that would be required is that you could only kill the same person 3 times in one day to prevent RWT. Using the above example of gaining two points for winning, and losing one point for losing you would be given ten points the first time you play the minigame, but if you managed to lose all your points you would have to pay a large sum of money to get your starting ten back (I suggest 500k). This large sum is necessary to prevent people from losing all their points on purpose to their friends knowing they can just easily get more. Anyone who has any experience in pvp should never lose ten fights in a row, so the 500k starting points will most likely be vary rarely used. In order to prevent people from using throw away accounts to steal the free 10 points that are given I think there needs to be some entry requirements in order to pvp in this minigame. I think the entry requirements should be 50 qp or 500 total level. Most people have these levels, but they do take quite a lot of time to earn on a throw away account, and it would be much faster to actually earn pvp points by actually killing (more fun too). The one point loss and two win gain were just examples to get my point across, but I don’t actually think these numbers should be used. This is because it’s not easy to share two points when you have 20 people in your clan pking with you. For this mini-game to be the best it can be there needs to be a coinshare like system to share points. So instead of getting two for winning and losing one for defeat; I suggest a ratio of 20:10 instead. This is because the 20 could be evenly distributed (close to even anways) to all participating clan members, and this would recreate the days when clans actually fought in the wilderness and got rewards for their effort. Using all the above restrictions and game play rules I think that this would create an accurate replication of the competition and profitability of the old style wilderness. While actually getting the old wilderness back would be nice, I know that is not going to happen, and it probably shouldn’t. I think this pvp minigame would be a nice replacement to the old style wilderness because it does not affect the economy as current wilderness replacements have. This new minigame would also actually promote competition instead of people just waiting for their ep to go up to 100% and then finally starting to pk. Please tell me if you think this idea is any good at all, or tell me if you see there are any ways this idea could be improved upon (also let me know if I have grammatical errors).
October 26, 200916 yr I like the idea. It reminds me of the PVP arenas in World of Warcraft, in that you acquire points and use them to obtain better armor and weapons. I think the real clincher would be the rewards. Would the rewards be so good that all other forms of PVP are made obsolete, or are they a little too underpowered to be worth it? Given a good balance of effort vs. reward, I could see this minigame being popular. Though, I have to point out that I think PVP nowadays is far more profitable than it ever was, due mostly in part to the horrible statue system. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
October 26, 200916 yr First off, good to see that someone actually put in effort to make a decent and well-thought out idea with features to balance it out. Unlike the thousands of idiots who post random crap that are (usually) severely overpowered. I like the idea. I'm quite sure Jagex would have thought of something like that too though. But what I think is the difficult part, as Morningrise said, would be the balancing of rewards to the relative effort required to get them. If it is too easy to get the rewards, it would result in inflation like the PvP updates quite recently. If the rewards are not worth the effort, no one would play the minigame much. You can claim the excitement is worth it, but the reward is also important and adds more excitement. Click here for an awesome suggestion to revive smithing!
October 26, 200916 yr This "new PvP minigame" you are talking about... I believe it is Fist of Guthix with drops added, and the charges system removed? Dunno if I should support this or not... though, this is well thought out so I'll just give my support. When I originally posted this on the RSOF I was unaware of the new(ish) EP and statue system. I was thinking that the rewards could be untradable versions of existing items, and that new 80+ items could be added with this minigame. I'm not sure if JaGex would want to do this though because almost all high level armor currently comes from monster drops and not from minigames(except for barrows).

I don't see why they can't be achieved from minigames, as long factors preventing friends from aiding you are introduced, if enough effort is required to gain the rewards.
