Questions Regarding iPod Touch

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I'm currently in the market to buy a new iPod Touch. I currently have a 2nd Gen iPod Nano, for the sole purpose of running and for school, and a 5th Gen Classic. I don't tend to use the classic, as it is bulky, and slow. Although, it is handy when I go on fights/trips, or the Nano has no batt. I did some research on prices, and found that I could get 2nd Gen Touch with 32 GB, for $449 NZ.

What is the difference between the 2nd and 3rd Gen, and would it be better paying the extra $50 NZ? However, I am going away soon, so I could pick one up for about $477 NZ at Duty Free...

Also would an 8GB do me fine? I currently have used about 5GB on my classic in movies and music...

I am basing my prices off the Apple Website and http://search.dse.co...f3b06e1&asug=ip

EDIT: If I buy a refurbished iPod, will it be the same as a normal iPod, and will the screen have an possible scratches on it?

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

The 3rd generations (excluding the 8GB, which just got a price drop) received the same CPU in the iPhone 3GS which is faster than its predecessor. This would be much appreciated if you think you may want to toy around with apps and games on your iPod Touch. It also has more RAM and support for OpenGL ES 2.0. I believe it also has an FM transceiver and hardware to support 802.11n WiFi but both of these are not supported yet by the software and cannot be used on the device. The 8GB version is a second generation product sold at a lower price and has none of these minor improvements. I would personally go for the 16GB 2nd generation if you can find it cheaper, but at the difference you mention I think it would be worth it to get the 32GB.

Thanks for the Laura, it was very helpful.

What about Refurbished iPods? Would they replace the screen on it so it has no scratches?

Apple replaces the screen, case, defective part(s), and I believe the battery as well, on all refurb iPod Touch models.

Another question guys, can anybody recommend any good screen protectors, and cases?

Laura hit the nail on the head. The 8gb is not a good way to go, you won't have the flexibality of free space. For the price difference, I would go with the 3rd generation 32gb, for the fastness mainly, but the 16gb should suit you just fine as well.

As far as cases go, it's hard to research them online. I would just go to your nearest electronic store and see what they have in stock. :)

Yeah, I'm quite drawn towards a 16BG Refurbished 2Gen...

Is the Invisible Shield Recommended?
