HexiledRazz
Okay, this is a problem i've had for months, maybe even a year. But it's gotten a lot worse lately. When the game loads a new area, or when I'm lagging, or have more then one tab open in Firefox. my game screen will go black and I'll have to re-freshen, reload the whole game and log back on. It's getting to the point where i just don't log back in because I'm sick of getting 'black screened'. It's also keeping me from doing any sort of boss hunting, or PKing because i've died a few times because of it. I have a few things that might have been the problem: When ever i re-freshen the page, another Java icon will appear in my taskbar.up to 6 or 7, possibly more can appear depending on how many times i've had to re-load the game.I can make them go away be expanding the hidden icons. Once i do, one will disappear, and the taskbar will snap back and re-hide the icons. I can repeat this process till all but one of them are gone. Another thing which i recently 'fixed' was the Javas i had installed. When i went to the 'change or remove programs' menu, i had about 7 different things of java installed.EG:Java version XX update XX(All of which were different versions and updates) I just un-installed all of them, and re-installed the recommended java for my computer hoping that this was the problem. It wasn't, the screen still blacks out, and i still get multiple icons. And something that happen when i installed the new java:I went onto Runescape to see if it worked, but it said Java wasn't installed. So i checked to see if the plugin for firefox was enabled, and it was. Then i tested it with the test feture on the Java website, and it worked. So i re-freshen runescape, and that worked too. I hope i provided enough information on the subject that someone can help me fix this. I'm actually getting sick of playing Runescape because of this problem. One Too Far
I've had this problem for a short while too, after i upgraded my video card. I don't know any solutions, but i do have a pretty decent idea what causes this problem: Ati cards. Many topics in the RSOF, all people have ati cards, mostly the newers ones (5000). Also most people get these problems in certain area's more often then others (i do too). Do you also experience problems at these places:1.: going from the varrock teleport to the GE (going past the bank).2: At the edgeville to GE bridge, or the GE shortcut.3: Crossing the wildy ditch ( this one doesn't seem to happen to everyone, the ones above do). There are other places that many people in RSOF and me get problems, but the problems there happen less often. For me the Varrock to GE one happens always, the one from edge to GE often and the one over the ditch quite frequently. If you could answer these it might help us all. Another good topic on RSOF to visit and post in is this: 25-26-195-60274621 Someone has also determined that the problem isn't so much the ati cards but the drivers. The error report Java gives points to a problem with the driver program. I hope i helped you understand, i'm not too good with computers myself so i don't know how to fix this... This makes crazy sense, because i have a ati card... And it might have started after i updated the driver. Because i did so a few months ago due to a problem with my new monitor. Well, i do lag out a lot at those spots. The GE most specifically. Well, this very well could be the problem. I'll look around for a solution. Thanks! (i can still use advice here though!) (i can still use advice here though!)Lowering some settings helped me a bit, GE is still a killer but the other spots not so much anymore. I must say it's a real bummer to upgrade your card, and then have to play the game on lower settings then you did first. Also the fixes like allocating more memory to java or other browsers don't help. It's suspected that it's just a fault in the driver where it can't handle certain things which just happen to occur at these spots, and i think lowering the settings helps to take away some of these effects. Though it might just be me trying to think i can do something about it though, but it's worth a shot.
Kidd_Varrow
I started having black screens come up randomly when the Runetek 5 update happened. Now that I think about it a bit, it does tend to happen around the GE, though it happens in other places too, like fighting Bork. :wall: If I switch to standard detail, however, this doesn't happen. One Too Far
A quote from Julian rc from the RSOF topic i gave the quick find code to: The areas are: (I don't know if this makes a difference, but I've only tested these in w42) 1. Edge village, just West of the bank there is a general store. About 5 squares west of the store then walk a few squares south, towards some flowers and a plant. If it doesn't crash right away, try walking around the plants. 2. Edge village, north to the wildy ditch. Jumping causes rs to crash about 25% of the time for me. 3. Leaving from Edge village and going towards the GE agility shortcut. It crashes right near that bridge, next to the obelisk. 4. The Catherby farming patch, just a few squares south of the Compost bin and then a little to the east. 5. Leaving Falador and going to taverly. Before, at, or a little past the members-taverly gate. 6. Leaving Taverly and going to Falador, when you get to about the Falador gate it crashes. OKAY that's all I have logged so far, someone who has the same problem as me, please try going to these locations and let me know if it crashed at all at any of these locations for you. I can play rs for hours and not have it crash, then I go to these locations and BAM! Black screened. I tested these all and they all did it for me, also happens semi-randomly at other places too (always loading area though), for example the brim haven fire giants. The ones around GE,varrock and edgeville nearly always do it for me, untill i changed my settings (i think water detail is a big one for this, if others could look into this too? Also turning player shadows off to.) Edit: coming back tomorrow to check for more replies, i would love to solve this problem too...
HexiledRazz
Oh, i should add that i play on low detail with bottom-ed out settings. And it normally happens with large amounts of lag.
