Barraging on defence style

Featured Replies

At first i thought it was 2xp mage, 2xp defence for every damage that you do whilst barraging, however i have now found out it is different but still do not know the correct ratio.

So i heard it's 270k mage xp per 1k barrage casted on mage style. For that amount of mage xp casted on mage style, how muchdefence xp would i get if i were to cast it on defence style? Please help.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it's 1 xp for each for each point of damage you do. Plus the base xp you get for casting the spell. The ratio will depend on your average hit with barrage, which depends on how many NPCs you are hitting..

The base xp for barrage is 52.

Ie. it's pretty hard to calculate a ratio. You'll have to do 1k barrages and see how much xp you get for each skill.

Edit: If you were barraging rock lobs, you could probably assume that on average, you are hitting 4.5 lobsters per cast. Each cast has a max hit of 300 (adjust for the staff bonuses). We can also assume that you hit 150 on average, which is half the max hit. This is not quite right, as each spell has a chance of failing (splashing) in addition to hitting a 0. But anyway;

The average XP you'd get using the above assumptions would be:

52 + 150*4.5 = 727 magic xp

150*4.5 = 675 defence xp

So the ratio would be 727/675 = 1.08 magic xp per defence xp, rather than the 1:1 ratio you were expecting. The ratio will become more skewed towards magic if you are hitting less targets and more equal if you were hitting more targets.

From your 270k mage xp you would likely get maybe 150k mage xp and 120k defence xp. Educated guess.

Ahh, that's great thanks mate, i tried casting a fire surge on an npc and saw i got 6 times more mage xp than def which would have screwed up my plans, but from your calculations i'm fine.

I calculated that i'd have the perfect amount of charms for 95 summ based on a 1:1 ratio if i were to barrage rock lobs on defence style. I guess i'll just end up a little more closer to 96 summ than i wanted, as originally i wanted to just get 95 then do CT Fiends till i had the charms for 96 summ.

Also i should get 90-92 def which is also great :D

An easier way to do it is to look at xp and cast rates. Without staff of light, I did 500 casts and got 120k mage exp.

500*52=26k mage xp from base cast

120k-26k=94k mage xp from damage

94k/2=47k mage and def xp from defensive casting

Therefore defensive casting is 73k mage and 47k def exp per 500 casts. Multiply those numbers by 1.125 if you're using a staff of light. This data is ice barraging rock lobs btw.

Ugh... your data suggests a 1.5:1 ratio which is not good =/ i don't want to go over 99 mage whilst barraging so i wanna keep it as close to 1:1 ratio as i can.

I plan on using SoL and battle robes, that simply reduces costs, doesn't change xp rates, could other peopel add their data, i wanna gage an average ratio.

Can anybody reinforce the ratio with some data? =/
