Runescape Wont Load

Whenever I click to play, it loads to the "Loading Defaults" or the "Preparing Sound Engines" screen. Like the maroon bar that fills up. I have restarted my computer twice and deleted my cookies, and I still can't play...HELP~!

Edit: just downloaded java 6.20, still not working =X

Try a different browser. What kind of video card do you have and do you have the latest drivers?

I use mozilla firefox, and I dont know what video card I have and I dont know how to find that stuff out about drivers.

It was working for the past..forever. Its happened a few times but a quick restart fixes it. Now it wont load at all...

If you're on vista/7 go to your start menu and type in the search field "device manager" no quotes. Expand display adapaters and tell me what you see. Try loading runescape on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome and see if the result is the same. You probably have IE on your computer still, just run a search for it.

Edit: Forgot, if you're on xp you'll need to go to your control panal. Then Hardware and Sound (something like that) then you should see the device manager.

Your graphics card is integrated so it shouldn't be a problem with drivers since you know it has worked before/is working now. The fact that it randomly works after restarts makes me think you're running something CPU intensive in the background before trying to start up RS. I assume you don't have things like other games or movie players running when you couldn't get it to load. Check for things like virus scanners that may be running without you realizing it. You can find out specifically what is utilizing your CPU by:

Pressing ctrl + alt + del

Click 'start task manager' if on vista/7

Click the performance tab

Click resource monitor, if on vista/7 you will need to give it permissions, just click allow/accept

Click the CPU/Processor tab/button (depends on what os you have) and you will see a big table of info thats constantly updating

Click on the CPU column button at the top to sort the list by CPU amount, basically the stuff in the CPU column with higher numbers is using more power (go figure).

You can google the processes that are using a large amount of your CPU that you are not familiar with, anything with a value lower than 20 is likely trivial. Sometimes its obvious such as avgscan[Caution: Executable File] - CPU: 54 or something like that. That would be an AVG virus scan. Sometimes its not so obvious such as svchost[Caution: Executable File], which if it is high, is most likely your windows defender running its scan.

I know thats a lot to swallow but if the problem pops up again we can help you figure it out.

That makes sense. I always turn on iTunes before runescape...

Should I do runescape first from now on?

Itunes isn't usually CPU heavy unless you're playing videos on it. Its worth a shot though.
