(i want this locked but I don't feel like pm'ing a mod to get it locked. So if they wanted by and see it feel free to lock. Those are probably the worst songs I wrote in retrospect (though I still disagree with Paw))

They rhyme and everything, but there's no flow to them. Lyrics and/or poetry has to have a flow which is produced by the syllable stresses and beats per line etc. and these jsut don't have it, they are all disjointed with now smooth flow.

Yea I know, flow wise hese aren't my best, I'm trying to find a happy medium between lyrical content and flow. Thanks though

Its not a happy medium when they have no flow and to be brutally honest the lyrical content aint exactly brilliant either. I mean uve used lines like "who is the pulpit?" which is just awful, a pulpit is after all a piece of furniture/structural feature not a who and there is no built in metaphorical reason for it to be refered as a who in tht context.

I have my reasons :P But anyways, this is in a sense only "practice." Most of the songs are personal in a sense, in that the meaning isn't exactly intended for anyone but me. I'm gonna sign up for a creative writing class next semester which should be fun. But on another note, I never said I found the medium :P my songs pretty much all have bad meter, which is what I'm working on, but this is only like 1/10 of all the songs I wrote, some have great meter, some don't. Like I was hesitant to put in the song 757 cuz that has god awful meter. But the only way to get better is to mess up, so... yh.

Anyways the pulpit reference was to when I was a little kid I wanted to be a missionary, but my mom wouldn't let me because she said "well some people aren't meant to convert" in other words, who's my pulpit? Who's supporting my efforts to convert? And the line "they're just figures like rows" rows of pews are in churches, obvsly. Its where you sit, and where your "spot" is in in the church. Well when I was younger I was always trying to be noticed in church etc, but never could. The line is an oversimplification, everyone said it was so easy to find your spot in the church, but I never could. Yea, like %100 of my lyrics are misinterpreted, which I guess is my own fault

You seem to have at least one really good verse/chorus/bridge in each of your songs. Keep the same rhyme pattern for each verse/chorus if you want to help it flow better.

Yeah if a lyric doesn't make sense to anyone but you it doesn't really work.

Its alright to have your own meaning, but others have to find a meaning to it as well and not just find nonsensical phrases.

 

Its one of them things that usually suddenly clicks, eg I was awful at poetry but after a few poetry lessons on my writing course something just clicked and now I can do poems fairly well (Well very well if I trust the judgement of my peers in class)

Yep, I know what you mean. But I posted all of my worse ones, the ones that I like at least. Because my friends have seen a bunch and said they're very good, but no one really liked these ones, so I decided to post them. And yea I have a bad habit of making songs that no one really understands but me, and thats really just my own fault. >,<
