Check out Muggi's Guide to Extremely Fast Melee XP. It has great info about Zombie Monkeys located beneath the Ape Atoll Temple. It's been years since I've trained there, but before I had maxed melees I trained there quite a few times. I was nearly always training alone down there, while the Gorillas above me were constantly full of people. The only downside to training down there is the use of prayer potions, but with all the ways to make money nowadays, earning 100k xp/hr at the cost of a few prayer potions is worth it.

If you are willing to fight the crowds, you simply cannot go wrong with Armoured Zombies. You'll profit, be able to use your best boost prayers all the time, and wear (nearly) your best melee equipment. However, with all these factors come crowds, so it's your choice.

However, if you're looking long-term instead of short-term training your melee skills and maybe even ranged skill with Slayer is the way to go. It's what I did, and now with over 20m xp for each melee skill, 22m xp for constitution, 99 ranged, 99 summoning, and 99 slayer, I feel I made the right choice.
