I use Paint. It's free, easy to use, and comes with all Windows computers. The only other program I use is Macromedia Fireworks for animations.

I've always used MSpaint- can't afford anything else and I'm only 12 :(

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I find shading not too hard but I always get carried away and everything looks... Overshaded. MSpaint's easy because of it's simple tools, once you get the hang of it it's easy.
