Jeffwilson99
Hey I want to give my laptop a bit of a cleanup, and remove some stuff I don't need, and hopefully speed it up a bit. It's just over two years old, and could do with it, to hopefully speed it up a bit. Question is, are there any good programs to assist with this? I have CC Cleaner, and use it every now and then. Way back in the day, I used to have system mechanic, which was similar, but I think it also had options for clearing up your RAM, but I'm not entirely sure. And one other question, is it "safe" to uninstall Norton? I only had a 6 month subscription when I got this laptop, and never bothered to renew it. I'm pretty sure it's broken anyway, the update never works, and the scan never finds anything. At the moment I use windows defender, and Malwarebytes, which has a live protection sort of thing. Or would I be better off getting something like AVG? Yeah, so any help advice would be greatly appreciated , cheers!
Sbrideau
It's pretty dangerous to keep an unsubscribed Norton. Not only is it a bad antivirus, but it's very outdated now too. Don't get AVG, it sucks. Get either Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira Antivir. I find CCleaner to be a very good program to clean things, although it only mostly cleans temporary files, sometimes that's all that's needed. You could also uninstall some program that you installed a long time ago and never use nowadays. You can also go to the start menu -> run -> msconfig and then startup tab, where you can uncheck some programs you don't want to start with Windows, which will make the Windows startup faster. Guy
Defragmenting really sped up my system. Don't use the one included with windows, use this one or this one (they're pretty simliar, I use the first) RIP TET "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." - Friedrich Nietzsche
ilya
Tune Up Utilities is what you need, it'll take care of pretty much everything you're looking for but security. Avira anti-virus is free, and I'd consider it one of the best one out right now.
