really?! i used to live there and i rarely ever heard of a shark attack. oceanside is always a good spot, great vibe and plenty of other surfers to hang with. pacific beach was also a good spot for me

I've never even tried surfing but I have a relative in San Diego that surfs, we went to Moonlight beach a few times and it was amazing. The waves also seemed right for surfing.
