Computer --> TV

My dad built a brand new computer and we have it hooked up to our tv via a HDMI cable. It runs perfectly fine but we are just missing the edges of windows and the top and bottom (Can't see the red X in the top right hand corner) and can barely see the start button in the bottom left. We've tried messing with the resolution and haven't gotten it to work yet.

Specs:

i7 chip

6g ram

Windows 7

1 tb hard drive

Top Nvidia graphics card (not too sure of what the name is)

If you need anything else just post it

Thanks

Finally on here to update that I have officially quit! It's been fun.

Usually when this happens on my monitor (sometimes on startup and stuff) I just press the "auto" button on it. I doubt there is something like that on your tv, unless it is hidden in a menu. Try searching the manual.
