Ok basic situation:

In new uni house, no tv points in bedrooms and signal is rubbish so indoor aerials don't work. So I've ended up using an online tv service.

Anyway my desktop is at the foot of my bed and the screen/speakers can be turned to use as a tv while I'm in bed (and later i'll be wiring up to my actual tv).

 

For the purposes of sleeping, watching tv of an evening etc what would be the best software to use to allow my laptop to control my desktop (and thus the TV).
