October 11, 201015 yr I just built a new computer a couple weeks ago, and I want to move my iPod touch to it so I can have everything in one place. The problem is, I don't want to loose my app data by trying to transfer it. Anyone know how to do this?
October 11, 201015 yr copy the itunes library folder and library file across. Then when you open itunes you hold down shift (might be ctrl, or even alt) but yeah anyway one of them causes a dialogue box to pop up where you can create a new library or browse to an existing one. Find the lbirary file you copied and it will have the exact same content as the old computer did. October 11, 201015 yr Author Does this work for apps too? My music isn't the problem, I have a lot of important info on my ipod that I don't want to lose
October 11, 201015 yr It works for the itunes library. You copy the ENTIRE library including all music apps etc.The itunes library is ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in your itunes (and your ipod). This way when u plug ur ipod in the library already knows it. October 11, 201015 yr Author Does everything have to be in the same directory? Im using Win 7 now, so the file paths will be all wrong.
October 11, 201015 yr Erm it should be in the same location as it was before. There is a way to manually edit the file paths, i forget how thou. October 11, 201015 yr Copy the iTunes folder from your old computer onto a USB drive, external HDD, or other external media. Then download and install iTunes on your new computer. Locate the iTunes folder it creates and overwrite it with the existing iTunes folder that you copied from your old computer. You shouldn't have to change any file paths because iTunes will look in the same place that it created the folder. This worked for me just recently when I reinstalled OS 10.6 to clean up space on the SSD. I would highly recommend that you backup your iPod before attempting this (right click on the iPod Touch icon in the left column of iTunes). In my case, existing data on my iPhone was not overwritten by the new computer (the application data, music, videos, and contacts were all unaffected). Perhaps it might be different for you, given the variance in operating systems, but that is how I would go about it.
