Finalizations for Bulding a Computer

Featured Replies

This is (Hopefully!) the last thread I'll be posting concerning the purchase of a new computer! I have (most of) the money, I have the help (that's you! and my friend!); all I need now is the time :-#

Part 1: The Physical Build

I've decided to make my own build. My budget is under $700 - not including Windows 7 and a monitor. I have a build I came up with here:

[hide=Build]

DVD Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151175

Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068

Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181

Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128431

Graphics Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161338

PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005

RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231180

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

[/hide]

I feel pretty confident with that (I made it (mostly) all by myself  ), but I really am an amateur at this. In fact, it is almost 100% similar to a build suggested by OldJoe (hello.) a long while ago.

What I want now is any suggestions to make that build stronger, while keeping the price the same/lower.

Part 2: Acquiring the Parts

This is the part I'm not so certain about. I know how to order things from the internet, even if it's not something I normally do. Here's what I need to know:

- What if my part doesn't work, or is DOA?

- Can I order with a pre-payed credit card?

I feel like there's more, but this is all I can think of as of now.

Thanks a LOT!

I can answer #2 for you:

-If a part is defective or DOA, you can send the part back and get a refund. Newegg has instructions on how to do this.

-I imagine a pre-paid credit card would work. They work for every other thing online, so why not here?

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

Do I have to pay extra shipping to return items?

No idea, although if you do, I think they'll factor that into the refund.

You have to pay shipping if you return through newegg, but if you deal with the company directly, they will likely send you a prepaid shipping label.
