But this time, wear the amulet and enter the waterfall. You will encounter Shadow Spiders right away, but the quest does not require you to fight them.

I didn't wear it, I had it in my invetory. I could still enter without taking damage.

Yea I noticed that a while ago too! Think JaGeX has update that, probably because a lot of people had it with them, but not wearing it during/after the quest and flooded away.
