I've never really been into anime, but if you're looking for a good show look up "Megas XLR". It's just good ol' school animation with robot brawls and New Jersey puns. (I used to live in New Jersey)

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Code Geass are my two favorites. I'm not going to bother to say why, you should just watch them now.
