transparent letters in photoshop

this may sound stupid but in al my photoshop days (think bout 1.5 year :o ) i never found out how to make stuff (esp. letters) transparent

EDIT: the sample letters totally see through is just select n delete on a transparent layer

Go to the layers tab, click on it. Click on the layer of the text you're fixing. You should see a bar with "Opacity" next to it. Just change the percentage. :)

Editted that out, turns out it was the simple thing I thought he knew :P

theres also the blend modes or you can take an eraser and set it to soft (press shift+[ like 6 times) then at the top you can set the brush opacity to like 50% and instead of erasing all of it it will make it like clearer. Its will become permenent though if you dont use masks

If you want a stroke round the outside and have the inside transparent, all ya gotta do, is type your text in, in any color, then Right Click On Layer > Blending Options > Change Fill Opacity to 0% on the first tab thing you get when you open the box. > Then Put Stroke.
