Real Life

I'm a 19 year old guy from New Zealand, currently in my second year of University (College?) taking a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in political science and economics - my Private Chat is always on, so feel free to discuss that sort of thing with me: even if I know nothing about the subject, you're sure to get my opinion. Outside of that, I have a mother and father (yuhrly) and a younger sister, whom I love very much. I'm also openly gay.

Things I like are hairdressing, interior decoration... no, not really. I enjoy a whole bunch of stuff, including weightlifting, running, snowboarding, surfing, reading, long walks on the beach, chess and dancing (mostly shuffling, but I did take a year and a half of ballroom dancing!) Between trying to get good grades, trying to get a part time job and trying to get a boyfriend, I don't have as much time as some other people to play Runescape - although I do manage an hour or two most days; sometimes more if it's a weekend or I'm procrastinating with my study >:]

I'm also in the process of cutting down/quitting smoking (down from 4 packs a week to 2!) so if I'm sometimes a little cranky, I apologise.

Runescape History

I was an avid player from 2002 to late 2006, primarily focusing on merchanting (I think my account was somewhere in the 70 combat range?). After getting hacked, I left the game, filling my time with other fun things. I came back briefly for about 8 months in 2008, before getting bored and drifting off. Naturally, I can' recall either of the precious account names, let alone password.

My current toon, H 3 A R T, was created around February this year after I heard of the return of The Wilderness/Free Trade. I was firstly a level 3 skiller while finding my feet, transitioning to higher combat via random lamps & hitpoints (had to do *something* with them, right?) before getting the 40 Ranged that you see in order to wear the ever so pretty trimmed chaps/stop getting aggro from low level monsters.

What I'm Doing!

h_3_a_r_t.png

I'm currently deforesting the crafting guild in order to acquire 70 Woodcutting. I shall hopefully get it by the end of next week, XP rates being what they are. Feel free to drop by and say hullo/give me protection mon... er, 'donations'.

Runescape Goals

The Main Goal

h_3_a_r_t.png

My end goal on this account and the purpose of this blog is to acquire 1000 total levels at under 50 Combat, in Free to Play. As someone who dislikes combat outside of PKing, staying this low shouldn't be too much of an issue for me, along with the fact that I've previously enjoyed PvP around this combat range; despite the legions of poorly mannered 14 year olds.

This goal is certainly inspired by the likes of Sonic, Pinkbullet, De Rich Hobo and Kill Life, who've shown that free players can skill too! As such, a big shoutout to them and their various blogs (even if some are now defunct). Below, I'll be detailing individual skill goals and my half formulated plans on achieving them - if you see a better or more efficient way for me to do something, please say so.

Individual Skill Goals

Attack

H_3_a_r_t.png

The standard level for free players, and best for me - as I have no desire to acquire Prayer levels any time soon, and risking 40k Dungeoneering tokens is not what I want to do. I'll train this the standard way, on hapless cows, men and minotaurs.

Defence

h_3_a_r_t.png

Happily, a completed goal! Defence provides me with unwanted combat levels and I enjoy being at 1, aesthetically.

Strength

h_3_a_r_t.png

This is the highest Strength level I can acquire while still being Ranged based. I'll train it much as with Attack, although probably moving onto Flesh Crawlers/Zombies in the wilderness Graveyard at higher levels. It's a necessary precondition to being a Range/2h Pker, which seems to be the dominant thing these days.

Hitpoints

h_3_a_r_t.png

I <3 Hitpoints (see what I did there?) This will be a happy side effect of training Range/Strength to higher levels. I'll also be keeping a few Magic levels in order to boost it via Curse Undead, along with Genie Lamps and the like.

Ranged

h_3_a_r_t.png

Ranged is a skill I've always enjoyed, and 70 is both aesthetically pleasing and places me right on 50 Combat (along with the HP gain from Strength Training). Unfortunately, it can be a very tedious skill to train at times and I plan to basically power range it, using bronze arrows at Black Knight's Fortress/Hobgoblins from 65 Range. While I realise a sling is 'free', I'd rather do it quicker and spend the time saved skilling <3.

Prayer

h_3_a_r_t.png

Basically, see Defence. However, I'm even more dubious about FtP Prayer, considering the lack of specials/effective rushing/prayer pots. As someone who skills a lot, Protect Item isn't much of a concern and I will be mostly PKing on non +1 worlds. Unfortunately, Explorer Ring (3) requires 2 Prayer and Explorer Ring (4), 45 - as such, I may get Prayer levels in the future, but my combat would have to be much higher (i.e. 90 Ranged/Strength).

Magic

h_3_a_r_t.png

Magic is always useful, and adds total levels without adding combat (which is what I crave). This will be primarily trained with a combination of Curses/Superheating and a little Curse Undead. This allows me to both train Smithing at a decent rate (doing Mithril Ore) and profit slightly, which is hard to argue with. Again, 70 looks very attractive on my stat sheet.

Cooking

h_3_a_r_t.png

I enjoy Cooking, and it's a very easy skill to train (as the quantity of Cooking Skillcapes attest) even in Free to Play. However, I think getting it to 99 would drive me slowly insane, and I'd rather have two 90s - both aesthetically and to provide variety, 'tis the spice of life (and RS) after all. This is will probably be achieved with a combination of Lobster/Swordfish/Anchovy pizzas and possibly Chocolate Cake, depending on how well it sells/buys.

Woodcutting

h_3_a_r_t.png

I can't say I enjoy Woodcutting too much, although it's a fairly relaxing skill to train. I'll probably be doing Willows all the way, or at least up to level 80. I'm not looking forward to competing with the swathes of bots which populate FtP, however. If anyone has advice on making this more bearable, please do tell!

Fishing

h_3_a_r_t.png

Strangely, despite not being too fond of Woodcutting, I absolutely adore Fishing - it was my first skill to level 70! Thankfully, as the spots are pretty independent, I don't need to compete too much with bots. It's pleasantly afk and I just wub it <3 Will definitely be trained via powerfishing at Barbarian Village/Lumbridge river, although I hear good things about Complexity 2 Dungeons, so if someone could fill me in on quite what this is, I'd appreciate it.

Firemaking

h_3_a_r_t.png

Although this involves heinous amounts of clicking, the XP rates as a free player are second to none, making it a very good skill for getting my total level up. I'll probably be doing Maples all the way, although if I come into some cash later on, Yews shall certainly be considered. I'll probably be training it at Edgeville, as there's minimal competition for lines and the company tends to be good.

Crafting

h_3_a_r_t.png

Crafting is one of those skills you either love or hate, and I'm a very big fan of it. I'll be making gold amulets at Al Kharid all the way, although it's rather slow XP, it's very nice profit and doesn't involve much clicking or paying attention. Again, the 70 lewks very naice.

Smithing

h_3_a_r_t.png

Even with the introduction of Artisan's Workshop, this isn't a fun skill to train in FtP. However, the ability to smelt addy is alluring! I'll mostly be training this via Superheated mithril, but will throw in some Steel Bar smelting/Artisan's workshop for a mix of cash and cheap XP.

Mining

h_3_a_r_t.png

Frankly, this skill is icky, despite being very decent cash. Mining addy is very cool though! I'll most likely be gritting my teeth and mining/banking Iron at the Resource Dungeon in Falador. I'd aim for 85, but I rather value my hands and sanity.

Runecrafting

h_3_a_r_t.png

Not a skill I enjoy, despite having a relatively high level in it (GOP robes are ever so pretty <3). However, I do rather enjoy GOP, so plan to powertrain this skill with Water Altar teletabs/Falador teleports, making a very nice lump of cash in the process. 56 Runecrafting is also a prerequisite for the Lumbridge Hard diary.

Dungeoneering

1/50

Tip.It doesn't appear to have a goal signature for this skill, but I aim to get level 50 - while I'd love to get a Tome of Frost/Arcane Blast necklace, I'm worried that my low combat and lack of protection prayers will limit my xp/hour pretty harshly. However, an extra 50 to add to my total levels is not to be sneezed at, so I shall figure out a way!

Level Ups/Pictures

I'll only be posting important levels and the like, as my internet upload limit is rather spartan!

In the process of uploading at the moment.

I'm sure there will be more to come ~.^

I found a panda and then we bought malt liquor. I hold my malt liquor better than a panda.

And I thought my weekends were good. ._.

I've been a busy guy over these last two days, between getting this blog sorted, Runescape and essays. However, it's paid off handsomely.

Admittedly, I'm finding WC a little tedious - but it will soon be over. :-)

Yay! Another F2P'er! <3:

Good luck with all your goals. I have a couple of suggestions to make things a little easier though

- If you're going to be banking iron ores at the Resource Dungeon, don't sell them. Use them in the Artisan's Workshop for free Smithing xp.

- While DG'ing, take a couple of minutes at the end of every floor to use sell all your leftover items then use the cash to buy protoleather and craft bodies for easy and free Crafting xp.

Here's a couple of good guides to help with your F2P journey:

Sonic's F2P Runecrafting Guide

Sonic's F2P Dungeoneering Guide

Zapps1's F2P Combat Guide (I know you're not going for much combat, but it has good ranging tips)

Sonic and Pinkbullet are two of my favorite F2P'ers as well.

Hope to see more updates soon.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...
