first u made a mistake that alot of people do..you made the legs 2d not 3 which makes it look odd considering the rest is 3d, also his body looks a little fat...u might have purposly made it that way but he looks kinda..plump to me. overall pretty good though ill give it 8/10 for first try

Well I dont know much about pixels since I am an abstract artist but the lighthouse could look better and so could the money but I like the effect you did with the staff. :)

the staff is a bit thin... it would snap pretty easy, other than that nice for a first attempt

It looks good, but as said before the legs looks 2d and the body is too fat.

Also the "horns" on the body looke like someone giving the finger

CC and marks out of ten please

The main thing that stands out, other than the lineart, which obviously can be worked on (but i'll leave up to someone who knows more about drawing humans and items in proportion than me) is that the entire scene is very... flat. There are no shadows, highlights, everything. The lighthouse light for example would be a solid yellow, you could still see stars on the other side of it, and it would be of a lower opacity.

A lot of the items , the scroll, shovel, and especialy the money and party hat have no depth at all. They are just a simple filled in shape.

To me, it looks like you need a common lightsource. From the scene, it looks like it is nighttime, and the moon is probaly out (because of all the stars in the sky, it's not a cloudy night). Thus, one lightsource would be the moon light, comming from a hidden, off screen dirrection, and another lightsource would be the lighthouse, and even a third would come from the glow around the staff, which would mostly just illuminate the top of the staff, and his arm part of his face.

I realize that trying to figure out where shadows are is confusing, but right now that is the number one thing that is wrong with this. Lineart, lineart can be improved. For a human he looks mostly like one, the proportions (taking a stab at it) fo the most part look fine. Also, keep in mind the sizes and proportion of everything together. Your guy is taller than the lighthouse, so the lighthouse is obviously far away. So of course, the light emitting (sp?) from the lighthouse is not going much affect the current scene, except for the actual part of the lighthouse, much, or any, at all.

I see that you tried to shade his armor, which I like. It's a simple gradient shading none-the-less, but it's shading. To me, shading isn't just showing the darks and lights, it's bringing the object into a more 3d state, instead of looking flat.

Basicly, I sugest you maybe look at somep ictures of these items. Some of them, the shading will be easy. Others, because of lightsources, will be hard, but you can do it.

Good luck :)

thanks guys (especially you Nadril) as you can see i'm a noob pixeler and it was only a first, i'm gonna try and get into it properly. I won't post anymore updates on this thread anymore but keep an eye out for future posts. I will post it when it looks a bit more realistic.

In the meantime if anybody has any tips on drawing humans please let me know yeah? Thanks!

Best tip I can give you on drawing humans, look at them. Draw what you see, you'll eventualy grow to draw them easier.
