F2P Smithing help

I am F2P and currently have 80 smithing, which I would like to get to 90.

What are the options I have, and what would you recommend?

All of my stats are pretty high, so I don't have too much problem in terms of options for money making (though obviously limited by the bots).

I also don't mind mining any ore, except for coal at the moment, as I find coal mining has been ruined by the reintroduction of free trade.

I checked out the Artisian workshop today, is this worth doing? What is the best way to train in it at high levels?

I have an available 10m to spend if this helps, though I'm not one to spend all this on steel or mith bars to smith and go up maybe 2 levels. I prefer to be more cost-effective and self-sufficient, though not to the point at which I am spending more time than its worth.

It would be nice to have a range of ideas and any help I can get and see which suits me best.

And I will not buy membership.

Thanks

Hey, I recently have gone from 85 - 91 smithing (on my way to 99) in F2P and these are some options that I looked at;

From 80 - 87/88

Artisans workshop - Using iron ingot i you can get ~40k exp/h and is very afk'able. Last I recall it was -2gp/exp. You could use iron ingot iii and get ~100k exp/h (I think) at -6gp/exp (again, as best as I can recall, Grimy took his spreadsheets down and I personally haven't tested this one). When doing AW, it's not really worth changing your items every time the caller calls a new item. Just pick one and stick to it and you'll be right 1/4 of the time.

Iron platebodies - Buying iron bars and making iron platebodies is ~80k exp/h and is something like -6 gp/exp.

Steel / Mith platebodies - Both are probably a bit too expensive at ~15 gp/exp.

From 87/88 - 90

Making addy platebodies is -4.5 gp/exp if you buy the bars at 2250 each and sell at 9800 each (put an offer in and should buy with a little time). If you start this at 87 you will need dwarven stouts. I stouted from 87 - 88 and I must say, it was annoying at times. Stick an offer in the GE at like 100 gp per stout and you should get them quite soon. This ranges from 150-200k exp/h depending on how much attention you pay to it.

As for mining, I would say that bots are too numerous to be worth it but you could try the wilderness or Crandor. Those places are far from a bank so remember a coal bag, otherwise it's simply not worth it.

OK thanks for the help, would you suggest buying around 10k iron ores and using them all in AW if I was looking for the most cost effective method? And what part of the workshop should I do? All I've really seen of it is the top floor.

And what the the item callouts mean? I guess there's some sort of reward for doing the right things?

Thanks once again

The top floor is the only place worth doing (burial armor room). The bottom floor is tracks which is extremely slow xp.

And yes, making the items that you're supposed to make gives you a 10% bonus in experience. I personally do it because I want to maximize experience gain per iron bar. Besides, you only need to switch every 7 items or so.

Don't forget your golden hammer as well!
