I just recently achieved 80 dungeoneering (Woooo hoooo planning on chaotic rapier!) and after going through hundreds of dungeons and fighting thousands of dungeon monsters I have noticed something about the defense skill in dungeoneering. It seems to me that the NPCs have extremely high defence, while I have extremely low defence. Despite the fact that I have over 80 defense, if I didn't have food, I bet I could die to a level 75 monster even if I had some armour (I am 119.95 combat). Even with my Promethium Maul and +160 strength bonus even the lowest level monsters seem to hit more often (not higher) than I do, which is ridiculous. Outside of daemonheim, if I had a promethium maul and I whent and fought monsters of comparable combat level I could probably tear through at least 5 without my HP even dropping to a critical level. Has anyone else noticed this? Is defense coded differently in daemonheim and I just don't know about it?

based on how runescape's accuracy equation is built, you often need accuracies below on the order of 50% or below, slow, accurate weapon to be effective over fast, but less accurate weapons.

Likewise you without enemies that hit you for over 50%, much of the armor available would not be justifiable.

In short, Dungeoneering weapons/armors wouldn't be very important if it were not the case that the monsters have higher accuracy and defense than us.

It seems the difference stems from equipment bonuses.

The majority of monsters outside of daemonheim have 0 equipment bonus.

But a few have more of course.

But in daemonheim, the opposite is true. The majority of monsters seem to have equipment bonuses, that boost their combat abilities without increasing their combat level.

So I haven't found a reason to think that daemonheim monsters are fundamentally coded differently.

But that's always a possibility if you can't see the code itself.

Mod Mark has stated:

Q - the boss monsters' lvls for solo dung do not compare to outside the dungeon, or even monsters in the same dungeon, they should be higher than what is displayed, like lexicus and runebound.

A - The entire of dungeoneering works differently to the surface world. Combat levels should not be compared to the surface world but instead to other creatures within the dungeon. If you still feel its wrong, then do let us know.

But I still doubt there was a fundamental change to how combat levels are calculated in daemonheim.

Ye, I dont think combat is coded differently but using a maul is another problem. I agree with a lot of these points tho. I have prom legs/body/2h/full helm, and if I were to verse another t10 warrior I'd prolly lose (assuming no prayer), and also rangers shred through my armor. >.>

I know maul is kinda bad, I normally use 2h (had gorgonite 2h best I can wield with my attack lvl) and when I got 90 str with only 86 attack I switched to promethium maul. But I deffinately agree If I faced any melee based enemy lvl 100+ but less than my level, I would get my ass handed to me.

Chances are you aren't fighting that high level melee monster in a full set of weapons and armour, while the monster is. Also, when it comes to melee, attack style and armour weakness make a huge difference - the average crush defense of a platebody in DG is typically half that of the slash or stab defense of the platebody.

When a monster has a particular weakness to one attack type, be it stab/slash/crush/range, it means that NPC is probably coded wearing armour of some sort. (Mage is kinda iffy, as monsters with a magic level having really low mage def. Look at Karil.) Although this is seen to some extent in regular RS (see dragons, waterfiends) it is far more pronounced in DG.

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.

my difinition of noob is i dont like u, either u are better then me or u are worst them me

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.
