Hello everyone, for various reasons I am now in possession of a broken i5-2500 CPU. Now, a local tech store sells the same model CPU that I want, so I was wondering if I could do something like this:

 

1: Buy new CPU with cash.

 

2: A few days later, return the package and everything that came with it, except swap the nice new CPU for my broken one.

 

Basically, is this even possible? Or are there like, systems to prevent that?
