Think i might have made a few mistakes...

This is(yet another >.>) post about building my own computer.

For those of you who helped me before, you probably remember that i was building a computer with a ~500$ budget. I finally ordered(In transit right now, should arrive the 14th) my build the other day, however i believe(Much to my dismay) that i made some errors(But i guess better to find out now then to get all excited while putting it together and have it not work, right?).

I happen to look at the page for the RAM again today, and saw it said "Designed for 2nd Generation Intel Core Processors and the Z68/P67/H67/H61 motherboards Optimized 1.5V low voltage for the Intel Sandy Bridge platforms Compatible with Intel P55 & AMD Phenom II/Llano platforms Intel XMP Ready".

Seeing the first part i panicked(lol) and went to the reviews thinking it wasn't going to be compatible with my AMD processor(Completely overlooking the last part where it says it's compatible with AMD Phenom II, however that's irrelevant). Someone had posted about how it worked fine with their AMD processor, but people should check compatibility just to be sure(Something i should have done in the first place, i know. But for whatever reason i stupidly, did not). I then went to their website and found out that my Mobo isn't on the qualified motherboard list(Link to the page). Alright so first mistake, right?(If you could prove me wrong please do >.>)

Second thing i do is go on the Gigabyte website and take a look at my mobo. I see this down at the bottom of the page under notes "Due to Windows 32-bit operating system limitation, when more than 4 GB of physical memory is installed, the actual memory size displayed will be less than 4 GB."(Link to the page). Which also strikes me as an error because i ordered a 64-bit version of windows. The only way i could see this as not being an error, is if the page is out of date and the mobo does support 64-bit.

EDIT: Turns out superstition and negativity from thinking i would have to send back my RAM and order different sticks affected how i read that. Thanks to Guy's post and a bit of research I'm at ease now ;)

Am i right about these two this mistake? It seems to me that i am, and it's just due to a sheer lack of knowledge and consistency on my part. But if by any chance I'm wrong and these parts will work fine, please do tell me. Because right now as far as I'm concerned, as soon as i get my parts I'm going to have to ship back my RAM and possibly my mobo if it won't work with 64-bit win7. And order a combo that will work with the parts i already have ordered and have in my possession. Which should at least take another week.

RAM will still work (hopefully) if it isn't on the QVL, it just means that it hasn't been tested as it would be impractical for the motherboard manufacturers to test all RAM on their motherboards. Chances are it will work.

That's a non motherboard-specific warning about 32bit windows, nothing to worry about.

The only way to find out 100% is by putting it together and trying it.

(TOPIC STALKING POWERS ACTIVATED)

Thanks for the response. I've actually been doing research and have been coming up with similar answers. Which puts me at ease, considering when i saw that line of text on the RAM's page, i was about to bash my head into a wall repeatedly. And i think superstition and negativity from thinking my RAM wasn't going to work affected how i read the line on the Mobo's note on win7 32 bit's limitations. Because as i read it now, it's much more clear. *edits OP*

If worse comes to worse, I'll put it together, get some sort of error, isolate it, and solve it. Even if i need to send some parts back :^_^:

So I'm a little late replying to this topic but I thought I would add my faulty ram experience...

When building my computer this spring I went in to the local computer shop for some advice and help picking out what I needed. I had help with every part that I needed, Case, CPU, RAM, Drives. Turns out I got some RAM that wasn't compatible with my CPU at all, took months of struggling to figure it out and I finally took it in for a diagnosis to find out the problem. Somehow I burned out 5 of the 6 CPU cores and found out the ram wasn't compatible through the various tests they ran on it with a new processor. I had some Patriot RAM that I believe was only compatible with Intel. I have the AMD Phenom II X6 1090t. So when I arrived to pick it up the ram had been changed to Gskills Ripjaws.

My Ram

That's the ram I ended up with but in 4Gb sticks, now running 16Gb. It runs flawlessly now with the new ram installed. The type you've ordered does not appear to support any AMD processors. Even from GSkills website it says designed for Second Generation Intel Core processors in red right at the top.

Gskills

I personally would send it back and order the ones I linked, being $3 more for them before even trying the stuff you ordered. Unfortunately it happens and not all RAM is compatible with the AMD CPU. I know the big brother to this ram runs great in my rig and seems to be holding up great. It's only been in there for a few weeks but the ram before I would blue screen and crash all the time.

Hope everything else works out great!

Cheers!

The 'designed for Second Generation Intel Core processors' is really nothing other than a tagline. So long as the voltages are fine, and the speed is supported by the processor, any RAM should work.

Not liking the motherboard specs - running the latest AM3 CPUs at HT1.0 spec instead of HT3.0, and with the 1333 memory speed as an OC (overclock) option, it may support it, but it sure as heck ain't built for the latest.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/294595-12-gigabyte-system-speed-downgrade-spec

Outdated, but the HT spec is actually a fairly minor performance tweak - impact suggested to be 5-10%

Well i guess I'm due a little update :P

The parts for my computer came in last night, and with a few hours of carefully reading instructions and putting it together, she booted up on the first try and i was able to install Win7 flawlessly(Almost too flawlessly. I was expecting karma to smite me with a huge spark and fry all the internal components).

Ever since then it's been running smoother then silk ^.^

@cheeky

If i start getting blue screens and such, then I'll worry and find out what it is. If it's my ram, I'll take my computer offline until i get some more for it. But as of now, my Ripjaw RAM is running fine with both my processor and my motherboard. Also, the RAM i got is slightly different then yours. That could be due the reason why it works. My processor and i imagine my motherboard are also different ;)

@Doomster

I didn't catch that myself. But then again the parts are already ordered and of now are put together and the performance meets my expectations(Even surpasses them in some fields). And with this build I've already accepted the fact that if i want to make any major changes(In the event that my computer's specs are outdated to the point where they can't support most games on reasonable detail) i would have to replace just about everything.

But for now, my computer works great and i love it.

I'd just like to extend a big thank-you to everyone on the forum to helped me out with this computer. I was sent multiple builds(Over the ~year that i've been trying to get this done XD ), and received general advice that really helped me understand a bit more about computers. Thanks!
