Lord Diddy
I have never played Settlers IV nor tried the multplayer. In your case you should use a crossover cable instead of a normal (straight-through) Ethernet cable. You could pick one up online or at a store, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812107215
Sbrideau
That or you can have a router/switch between the computers.

Lord Diddy
This explains it simply and quite well. http://auhongsen.wordpress.com/2010/06/07/the-difference-between-straight-through-crossover-and-rollover-cables/ Physically all that is different is the order of the 8 wires found inside the cable. Essentially if you have a cable making kit you can find an old straight-through cable, cut off both connector ends, rearrange the order of the wires, reattach the RJ-45 connectors, and voilà you have a crossover cable. Or just buy one online
