Name changes

So I'm considering changing my display name and would like to know a few things about it...

 

1) When you change a display name, do you log in with your new login or your old login?

2) If the old display name becomes taken, would the login remain the same or no?

Your login remains the same regardless of any name change.

I believe it's a week between when you can change your name again, and the old name being useable by others.
