Powerfrog
I suggest an achievement list for runescape, ranging from beginner to the elite. It's very much the same as runescapes current task system, just with bigger tasks and much better rewards. A few examples of tasks and rewards: Lava! Kill Jad for the 5th time. You now start the fight caves on wave 32. Chicken slayer. Kill 1000 chickens. Feather drops from chickens now doubled. Stop global warming. Save 1000 coal by making bars in the blast furnace. Each coal you use now has a 10% chance of not being used whenever you create a bar. There could also be more gimmicky ones such as: Overpowered. Kill QBD with bronze dagger (100% damage must be from dagger). You are awarded "Jagex bronze dagger", normal stats but looks noticeably different. Party Pete! Use the dance emote in front of every "Pete" in the game. New dance emote taught during a cut-scene with all the Petes. Fire + Fox = ??? Attack a fox creature with any fire spell. Cut-scene triggers and you get your own firefox pet. (Promotional thing, can work with any brand. The player will "earn" the right to see an advert, surprisingly effective.) I just think the current task system isn't very interesting and the rewards are not very appealing, these "big tasks" would give bored players something to do, and the rewards will give focused players an incentive to experience other parts of the game. Remember not to criticize me for the examples i gave, the point of this thread is to promote the idea of "big tasks" or "Achievements", I'm sure jagex/the community can come up with some much more awesome ones. Note: When i say rewards are not good i am referring to the none area based tasks. The area based ones are great and I'm going for a similar thing here, only more specific tasks and rewards related to the task.
Cheefoo
Interesting idea. I'd imagine it could work as an addition to the task system. Perhaps they would be under a "special" category, where each "achievement" has its own unique rewards. Syd
I think this is a good idea. However I think such achievements should be taken out of any requirements for anything else (such as completionist cape or anything), and be there just for sake of fun. Or small bonuses. :) Just so not every "must complete everything in this game" -person feels like being forced to kill some bosses dozens of different ways to get that one big reward (such as completionist cape). Pretty much like seperate section for players who like some things more than others. I'm not fan of "having to complete everything" to be good at something. For example if I like smithing skill, I could focus on doing smithing based achievements (smelting different amounts of different ores, doing different type of armours, creating something totally from scratch and so on) without having first do hundreds of achievements that don't require smithing at all. Of course, if someone really wants to do everything, nothing would stop them. Except that I think some achievements should be simply huge enough that most of people wouldn't even bother trying for the sake of completion. Just for fun, not for a chore. I'm sure everyone has some sort of goals they'd like to try out, even if it wasn't fastest experience or the most efficient thing to do. Such achievements and possible new rewards (which again can't be too good, so it's not like you must have them to compete in other parts of game) could possibly give players more goals and motivation for playing. But i do think the tasks should only be for the trimmed completionist cape, meaning you don't have to do them to feel like you have truly completed the game. (I know many players that stop at regular comp mostly for 1 single task, the 5k cwars games, which is a really bad move on jagex's part imo) The tasks should never get anywhere close to the 5k castle wars games in length, they're actually largely intended to take away the grinding feel of the game, with the rewards often furthering this.
