VIDEO GUIDES

Featured Replies

Why does everyone think they can make a really good guide video, they spend little time making it and in the end it gets 500 viewers!?

Where are all the written guides? Did everyone get too lazy to write and read?

I miss the old guide section on tif, where every now and then a nice guide appeared which was well worth reading.

Now there are 3 written guides amongst 50 videos which are boring or tedious to watch.

If you can't speak clearly, don't make commentary!!!!!!!

If you HAVE TO make a video, make it short and get straight to the point instead of showing us your character bankstanding while you talk about something we don't want to hear...

Write a guide instead and make a 2 minute vid showing the most important/tricky things.

Thanks.

Feel free to post videos here: http://forum.tip.it/forum/242-runescape-media/

THANK YOU. I thought I was alone on this. So sick of shitty video guides, especially with shitty commentary and shitty useless advice.

Just because you have video capturing, editing, and voice software doesn't mean you need to MAKE A GUIDE FOR EVERY LITTLE IDEA THAT POPS INTO YOUR DITSY HEAD, ESPECIALLY IF THERE ARE DOZENS OF GUIDES MUCH BETTER THAN YOU CAN EVER MAKE ALREADY EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNET.

Dis s0 much guise.

but seriously I hate having to watch a 14 minute video explaining the most shittiest points when I can just find a written guide and control-F my way to find the part I want to read.

I can skim read, not skim watch.

But yes all other criticisms the other 2 have shared I also share.

Luck be a Lady

People make video guides because they easier to make, not because they are easier to move. There have been very few times in my life of playing video games where a video game might have been more useful, and these moments could either be substituted out for a picture with a location circled, or 10 second clips showing the animations that signal certian attacks. Even a video of a boss fight is rarely if ever useful, because (at least for me) you can't get a feel for a fight without actually participating.

Text is a much more friendly format for finding the information you want/need in a timely manner, assuming the guide is well written.

Agreed, I tend to skip right over most of the video guides in the Archive of Wisdom these day. As long as it is decently well-written, a text guide provides much more information and is also easier to come back to in the future to find a specific piece of information.

I don't like video guides in general. As others have said, there are very few places where an actual video guide is useful. The thing about text guides is you move through them at your own pace. You skim over some paragraphs that contains information useless to you. A paragraph with important information you might look over 3 or 4 times. It's also easier to go back and read a paragraph about something when you want to review a particular piece of information.

Videos are better for showing that something can be done. A video of someone doing a really good job in a boss fight is kinda cool. But the explanation is better off in text or not at all.

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

I can see what your saying, but most Video Guides are submitted through YouTube, and you can't really post a WRITTEN guide on there.

Video Guides take the exact amount of effort than written guides, sure some of them might be horrible (for example the recording software is not good, etc) but others, even the 2 minute ones, can be well edited and whatnot.

So don't bash on them like they are a ridiculous thing.

Just sayin'

Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer.

I'm not saying they're not done well, just that there are too many of them and it would be(much) better if they were done in written form.

  • 1 year later...

Total agreement over here. I took a 2 year break from Runescape and tip.it. When I left we had the old combat system, a reasonably-easy game, and (mostly) written guides or (some) guides that were videos but had a SUMMARY in written form in the post.

I come back, EoC (which I'm okay with now that I've spent time figuring it out), Old School (which I play far too much), and a surplus of video guides where the first 2 minutes are 'hi, I'm [insertnamehere], I've been playing RS for [insert#ofyearshere], I decided to help everyone out by making this guide on . I'm not really a professional public speaker, so I'm sorry if the guide's not perfect. [addlargeamountofotherexcuses/disclaimershere] Now the first thing you need is to go to a bank and make sure you have these items...'

Nope.
