hi there i was wondering about E.T. for the atari 2600 was there releay a landfill of 1,000,000 copies of the game dump in new mexico because it suck so bad??

Saw something about this in a magazine a long time ago, nintendo power or something. From what I remember the game consisted of falling into some kind of hole and that was it. Not sure if thats it but I think it had something to do with a pit or hole.

E.T. was a video game created in 1983 for the Atari 2600 video game system, based on the 1982 movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial; it is one of the biggest commercial failures in computer and video gaming, and because of its poor sales, gameplay and graphics, it was a contributing factor in the video game crash of 1983.

Atari anticipated enormous sales based on the popularity of the movie, but the game ended up selling surprisingly poorly; in fact, nearly all who purchased copies of the game sent them back to the company. Although opinions varied on the quality of the game, very few found it enjoyable, and it eventually became well known as one of the worst video games of all time. Atari, optimistically, had produced more cartridges than there were actual Atari game consoles in existence at the time. Atari (then secretly, now infamously) buried the remainder of the cartridges in a landfill near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The Indie Band Wintergreen recently released a song called "When I Wake Up"[2], featuring the videogame's burial.
