Does using the cannon raise your HP level along with your ranged level?

Yes, In future ask in Help & Advice. But it does.

I think so, any damage you do goes towards you hp 1.3x the damage --> hp i think.. so i guess cannon would give hp exp.

No, it doesn't. Cannons give 2 experience points for every damage inflicted to ranged, and ranged only. If you want hp exp then use a bow or knives.
