Protecting from dragon fire?

Featured Replies

I don't have 85 herblore and so can only use regular anti fire potions. If I use these and protect from magic does this provide the same protections as super anti fires?

Someone told me it does, but I wasn't sure if the damage I was taking when I was killing dragons was from the fire or meele attacks.

From what I can find it seems regular antifire + protect from magic provides FULL protection.  A shield + antifire also works.

As far as I know roughly speaking fire protection values fall thusly:

Super Antifire - 100% protection.

Regular anti-fire -  50% protection

Shield - 75% protection

Prayer magic - 25% protection.

Meaning shield + prayer can full protect, but pray + pot cannot.

I think antifire and protect from magic are each 50%. So you have 1 * .50 * .50 = .25

I don't think shield + protect is 100%.

Here is a way to test:

When you use the regular antifire potion (lvl 69)  and the anti-dragon shield, you are 100% protected from the fire. If the dragon only fights with melee -- like iron and steel -- and you stay out of melee range, your life bar will not even come on. They cannot hit you at all unless you get close. So you can use them as a test, let your potion run out while maging or ranging from a safe distance, turn on prayer, and see if your life bar comes on. If so, you are no longer fully protected from the fire, because from a distance, fire is their only weapon.

I think you get a game message in the chat box too when you are fully protected from the fire or not.

If the dragon fights with magic -- such as mith, black -- you'll be 100% protected from the fire with your shield and potion, but your protect magic prayer or deflect magic curse can only partially protect you from the magic, so you will still need to eat or regenerate.
