zyrm
In this topic I will compare the prices of all the f2p bones and offer an explanation of their current prices. For awhile ive been wanting to write this to compare the gold cost to xp gained ratio between small bones and big bones. Bones (Small Bones) We all know about these. They are the small bones that are dropped by most npcs. According to tipit they raise your prayer xp by 4.5 when buried. You can buy a one for a few gold in game, but in bulk they can cost anywhere from 20-50 gold each depending on the buyer/seller in the forums. If you dont want to fight for these bones go to the cow pastures or stonehenge circle where there are always many bones lying on the ground. You might think that they are rather overpriced considering how ridiculously common they are. The reason they can cost so much is because to raise you prayer lvl any meaningful extent you will need to bury literally hundreds and thousands and tens of thosands of these bones. So while individually they are not expensive collecting the immense amount you will need to train prayer is time consuming. This is consequently why they cost as much as they do, because you are paying mostly for time the person took to gather them and not the actual bone. Burnt Bones These are not widly known and while have a different name, they are essentially the same as small bones. They can only be found in the wilderness and have no f2p use other than for burying. Accoding to tipit they raise your prayer xp by 4.5 as well. They are priced the same as small bones. Though they are only found in the wilderness they are not worth more. Because they raise your prayer xp by the same 4.5 xp as small bones do, there is no need to go all the way into the wilderness for them. You will not see anybody in the wilderness collecting them for this reason, as all bone collectors will remain safely out of the wildernes looking for small bones, which are basically the same. Monkey Bones These are only dropped by monkeys, which in f2p can only be found on Karamja Island. Accoding to tipit they raise ypur xp by 5. Their price is also the same as small bones. The extra .5 xp could have raised monkey bones value if it werent for the fact that they are only on Karamja. As the monkeys are far from a bank and on an island that you must pay 30 gold each way to enter and leave almost nobody collects monkey bones. There are many places closer to a bank to collect small bones and the .5 xp difference is so negligible that 99.9% of players will not care about it. Big Bones Ahhhh, the main part of my little discussion - WHY THEY ARE OVERPRICED !!!!! Big bones, commonly reffered to as b bones, give you 15 prayer xp when buried. They are the favorite of f2p players who are raisng their prayer lvls. While harder to obtain than burnt bones and monkey bones, they are not as rare. There are several places in f2p to find them: lvl 28 hillgiants in wilderness and in the Edgevile dungeon, lvl 56 Ice giants in wilderness and blurite mine, moss giants, wilderness respawn point, and a zombie random event drop. In game the standard price is 300 each or at the edgeville dungeon maybe 200 or 250 each. On the forums where they are bought or sold in bulk they can go for anywhere between 300 and 450 each. Now, why they are overpriced. They are favored by players because for every b bones you bury you would have to bury 3 small bones for the smae amount of xp. Doesnt sound like much but when you are dealing with large amounts of bones, anyone who could would choose to bury 1000 bones instead of 3000. Small bones at most are 50 gold each and raise your prayer by 4.5, let us raise that to a round 5xp. Big Bones at the standard price of 300 each raise your prayer by 15. While big bones give you 300% more xp than small bones they cost at the least 600% MORE. The cost to xp gained ratio is in small bones favor. Most people do not care about this because as stated above they would rather bury 1 bone than 3. However here we are comparing big bones to small bones and that is unfair, we must take a look at big bones as something entirely seperate. They cost more than then they should because they are harder to obtain. Small bones and monkey bones are dropped by almost all low lvl npcs and several higher lvls as well. Big Bones are droppedby an npcs of which the lowest lvl is 28. The main place for b bone collecting is the edgevill dungeon. However here there is on average 2-3 players for every hill giant. The only other non wildy place to find b bones is the blurite mines. The ice giants here are lvl 56 and the mine is far from any bank. Due to the facts that you must battle high lvl npcs, compete with other players for the right to fight hill giants, and the danger of going to the wilderness to collect big bones, the price of big bones is what it is. _____________________________________________________________ Please post comments and CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM only. As you can see the main gist of this topic is the cost to xp gained ration between small bones and big bones. While you have to bury more small bones for to get the same xp as big bones I would rather do that than pay 200% more for big bones than what they should cost. THANKS FOR READING [omg] who cares if its nerfed or fixed.... you people will argue over the color of a green apple if it was a topic on this fourm god. zyrm
dunnoe, never seen them, there, but the even if they are the point is that they are a relativley high lvl npc to fight against for a large number of bones and it would probably be a popular place for bone collectors [omg] who cares if its nerfed or fixed.... you people will argue over the color of a green apple if it was a topic on this fourm god. Once you can kill a giant for the big bone, its not a problem.
zyrm
anyone can kill a giant if they bring enough food What im saying is that big bones are priced so high because people buy them in such large amounts and that there is lots of competetion for the characters that drop them. While a higher lvl helps people buy so many b bones that to collect the amount you would need for a sizeable profit you will inevitably spend many hours and days fighting giants. No matter what lvl you are , that many giants would eventually weaken you and youd need to eat food and make return trips to the bank. Its a time consuming way to make money. You seem to have never heard of the 4 big bone spawns next to eachother at lvel 28 wildy..
zyrm
If you bothered to read my entire post you would have seen that i said there were respawn points in the wildy. In fact ill tell you just where to look- the 1st paragraph under big bones section. 4 respawn points in a place where other players can attack would only raise b bones price because collecting the bones there is far more dangerous than killing giants. If you bothered to try to collect the bones you would find that the spawns are 8 out of 10 times abandoned. You also forget that if your smart enough you only bring 3 items to the wildy to collect bones, rendering yourself a meager target in the eyes of pk'ers knowing they won't get anything off you. zyrm
Thats not the point dont you htink i knew that, i wa simply stating that there WERE respawn points in the wildy. Also you were the one who brought that up. You seem to forget that this is not a pking guide but a topic about bone prices. The fact that they are in the wildy makes them harder to get than by killing giants and that is a reason a put it into my post to make the point of why they are so expensive. People attack you in the wildy no matter what you are doing. Simply being there is more dangerous than fighting hill giants. jaklumen
Hmmm... the only way that things might be evened out is make bat bones available to f2pers and put some in a few f2p areas, such as Draynor Castle. But that particular place would be unlikely seeing as they just updated it. Much of this still boils down to "will Jagex ever make a F2P update?" I think that it's highly unlikely since F2P is basically considered a demo of the game. But that is what I would suggest.

zyrm
Those were updates to the games appearence- the graphics, not updates for new quests and items. endo
the demand for big bones applies for both f2p and p2p and it is much more popular amongst people who wants to level their prayer.
