Tbf whenever they put it on the price would be nonsense - this is jagex after all - most of the existing tokens barely sell for like 1/100th of the ge values.

 

But yeah its part of the coding basically that if an item isn't selling, but offers exist over it's ge value it assumes the lack of sales is due to undervaluing and moves the price upwards to try and make sales happen.

It's a bit of dumb and unnecessary code really because players, on the whole, are good at street value trading so if ge value was too low people would just be trading at street value and the code that makes ge value move towards average traded value would take care of upping the price.
