SDK
Runescape is all about skills and money. Have the money? You can raise the skill. Have the skill? You can get the money. Skills are easy to gauge. You've got level 85 mining, greate, combat stas of 99-99-99, fantastic. Everyone can see how good or dedicated you are. With money there is little to gauge. Sure, this person buys 15 phats a day.. ok they are rich. Does that mean they are a good merchant? Maybe theye have a friend supplying them, maybe they go their money through luck, or perhaps they sold all that coal it took them to get to level 85? I've been toying with an idea of late, something that I thought might be fun, the Merchant Games. A fun exercise for merchants to prove their stuff. Here is my idea: A group of merchants start new characters, meaning you have 25gp as a start. Then you start the games and they go out to see who can make the most money the fastest. Pretty simple. For landmarks along the way maybe you would have rewards. Landmarks might include: First to 1k First to 10k First to buy full Rune Here's the rub though, is it possible to ensure that people don't cheat? Would top merchants care to participate? For the cheating thing I can think of only one way to limit it. If the game required a log of how you got the money. Killed goblins for 3 hours and made 400gp? Record that. Bought water runes for 4gp each and merchanted at 20? Write that down too. I think that this would be resonably preventative. It might not stop people from getting their friend to buy things at a umm... slightly "inflated" price, but it would help. Realistically how many people of high levels would buy the 6 water runes you can buy with that 25gp . This coupled with close inspection of these record might help cutail cheating. The second question is a little more difficult. I know that I would find an activity like this fun, but would others? Merchants out there, would you be up for a game like this? What kind of rewards would you want? If you don't want to publicly say that you would participate PM me, I know some of you are a bit reclusive when it come to your money. Let me know what you think. If you have suggestions on ways to limit the cheating possible let me know. I think that it could be a fun activity, something a little different. EDIT: I forgot to mention that there would be any real limitations to be in the game. All one owuld have to do is show a reasonable knowledge of merchanting, I doubt that there would be any entry fees or anything like that to enter. ~SDK

Denismage
The beginning - My mains name is "denismage", I play runescape for almost 2 years. I also have many other accounts (pures, miners, etc)... People who know me, know that I would never scam, bs or deceive anyone. I'm currently bored of runescape (Feb 15 2006) so I decided to give all my items and gp away. I've decided to create a skiller (account with lvl 3 combat and high non combat stats) to test my merchanting skills. So, here goes :-) Enjoy! Feb 15, 2006 Created the account called "Skillers Own" It took me a while to find a name that wasn't taken by some one else. Did the rune mysteries quest. Now I can mine essence lol... Mined 100 essence (with a bronze pickaxe) Sold for 35 each. Bought some essence for 10 each, then sold again. I kept on doing that until I got 30 k (took me about 2 hours) Went to the fally rune shop, (almost got killed by the highway man on the way there for all my money) bought some waters. Got about 3.5 k waters and then sold to some guy for 20 each in world 1. Kept on doing that for the rest of the day. Feb 16, 2006 Now I have 550k and some junk. Took me a whole day to get that much. I also found an addy pickaxe head (yay!) I never knew items like that could ever be useful. Died to a mugger. I lost a part of my full iron. Getting called a "noob" a lot by lvl 50-60's. Today I have merchanted to about 940 k gp (I found out death runes are easier to merchant), could go for more but I have a "real life" and "school" lol. Gave 100 k + stuff to friend. Friendship > pixels (H) Feb 17, 2006 I found out people don't trade players with low combat because they think they are all scammers. Didn't play much. Got to 1 million gp. (lvl 83 runs into the mine) lvl 83 says: Sup peeps !!! lvl 21: hi lvl 83: I didnt talk to you noob. And now tell me who is a noob? If you said lvl 83 is a noob, you are correct. You win a cookie. Omg met a first mature low lvl in almost 2 years. His name is rushnike3 and he is lvl 48 but he is so nice to noobs (aka me) Gave him 100k for being so nice. Got a frog prince outfit. WOOT. Got to lvl 35 mining. On every world I log into - death runes stock - 1 Back to buying waters. Was competing vs autotypers in world 1. Almost broke my fingers. I was reported for buying waters runes too fast ? (h) Excuse me for not having slow reflexes. I guess 1k waters per minute is too fast for that guy who has reported me. Feb 18, 2006 Merchanted a little, got to 1.6 mill gp. Got to lvl 54 mining. Some people said I hack and cheat...lol. Met many nice people. I've counted 4 people blasted by a steaming rock today. My current target - lvl 70 mining, then I will go merchant a bit more. Feb 19, 2006 Random people keep adding me :s Got to lvl 60 mining. People admire me. And also call me a bot. Feb 20, 2006 School, so didn't play for a lot. Got to lvl 63 mining. Was hanging out in varrock square dancing with some people. Some people keep calling me an autoer...lol. Graphics in barbarian village and fally have changed, went to check them out as well. Feb 21, 2006 Reported many autoers who auto on the rune essence. Got to lvl 64 mining. When you mine for 4-5 days in a row, doing pretty much nothing else you will get really tired of it. Went to level crafting, woodcutting and firemaking. Got crafting to lvl 13, woodcut to lvl 23 and firemaking to lvl 25. Feb 22, 2006 Got to lvl 65 mining. Went to the fally rune shop and bought 1.5 million worth of deaths and chaos in about 90 minutes. Amazing. Note - I made all of my money by merchanting ONLY. Duke_Freedom
People will cheat. Top merchants won't care. I know I don't, as it doesn't show any skill of being a good merchant. Being a good merchant takes more then being able to make 1K, 10K or full rune from 25gp, which really takes little skill at all and is mostly luck / time involved. Just my opinion ;). The value of my bank at its height. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 250 billion+.Most likely the largest trade in RuneScape ever. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 70 billion+.
SDK
So now we could even estimate the time to these goals and even increase the landmarks a bit without thinking that its unreasonable. Time to 100k is something like 4-5 hours tops. Time to 1mil is less than 4 days. So land marks at: 500k and 1mill or something like that. Then further questions arise, do the prizes go to the noob character or the main? Noob prizes wouldn't be as good, and wouldn't be monetary but might help you excel at making money. And for the guy above, did you even read the post? I mentioned some ways to prevent trading to friends and drop trading.
Screwy
I don't merchant like that, I normally buy something for the lowest price and sell it for the maximum ammount of money.
