  1. Just FYI, it is "How many," posting it the other way make you sound a bit ignorant as it isn't proper english. On topic, we all know that some kids don't have the cash for P2P or their parents won't pay for them. It is a fact of life, do you really think it fair for the jagex staff to work for free? Or even try to get by with the cash that can be generated by ad clicks? There is a whole free version of the game that the p2p folk are paying for. Maybe I want the free version gone so that I can get more updates with the extra man power that the cash from not having free server generates? Finally, go play one of the other MMORPGs that are free. Or some other game entirely, oh wait those are rarely free... What it all boils down to is: Wait a few years, get a job, get a credit card, pay for it yourself. ~SDK
  2. I doubt you have lost any respect, everyone is entitled to and opinion. I don't think that you are right, but that is just my opinion. Just a suggestion, why not talk to your friend on the server and say "This server is sucking lets all move to ?" Although this would come out as "This server is ****ing lets all move to ?" I think they will get the idea. It is easier to move a small group of close friends then to move an entire board community. It will probably be more effective as well, seeing that the movement of your friends can be almost immidiate, but the movement of the community would take weeks for everyone to find out about... Don't beat yourself up over an opinion, it is your right to have it. ~SDK

    R.I.P.

I have to agree with shade on this. A lot of you are showing more ignorance than you can know. This isn't a matter of someone making a selfish/idiotic decision. It is not always possbile for people to understand the mind set of people in this situation. Being 14 is tough, you think you have a good grasp on what the world is like, how things acutally are. However, this is rarely, if ever, the case. In addition to the confusion of being a teenager there is the addition of depression. These two combined can make very small things seem like huge life altering problems. Please, don't dishonor this child's memory by calling him names. This is not the time for such things. I would like to conclude with the thought that this is NOT the first time this has happened in a game like this, and will not be the last. Try to be kind and understanding to your fellowe gamers. You wouldn't want to be the one pushing them off the edge. ~SDK
  4. comon we got lots riding on this!
  5. HAHA sleep.... in bed.... instead of playing runescape until you pass out from exhaustion. NOOB.
  6. Runescript would be a custom java API. No reason you can't write your own base classes in java, that is what runescript would be. Basically it provides comonly needed functionality for runescape with a set of classes. very similar to other java packages e.g. java.io. Runescape is entirely java based, THAT is why the game is so cool.
  7. Only people who get their panties in a twist here are those who either can't afford it or their mother won't allow them to pay it  . Sorry to burst your bubble, but $5 is hardly social superiority.
  8. couldn't look faker (is that a word?) anyway it looks fake
  9. Had two people try it to me today. They wanted to trade by dorics, the other at monastery. Heres what you do... "Sorry, I don't trade at edge" all done.
  10. Sorry if you have noticed already but.... they got rid of coal at barb vill!! Now where am I supposed to mine it? These little changes were they modify more than the graphics a bit annoying.
  11. So now we could even estimate the time to these goals and even increase the landmarks a bit without thinking that its unreasonable. Time to 100k is something like 4-5 hours tops. Time to 1mil is less than 4 days. So land marks at: 500k and 1mill or something like that. Then further questions arise, do the prizes go to the noob character or the main? Noob prizes wouldn't be as good, and wouldn't be monetary but might help you excel at making money. And for the guy above, did you even read the post? I mentioned some ways to prevent trading to friends and drop trading.
  12. Runescape is all about skills and money. Have the money? You can raise the skill. Have the skill? You can get the money. Skills are easy to gauge. You've got level 85 mining, greate, combat stas of 99-99-99, fantastic. Everyone can see how good or dedicated you are. With money there is little to gauge. Sure, this person buys 15 phats a day.. ok they are rich. Does that mean they are a good merchant? Maybe theye have a friend supplying them, maybe they go their money through luck, or perhaps they sold all that coal it took them to get to level 85? I've been toying with an idea of late, something that I thought might be fun, the Merchant Games. A fun exercise for merchants to prove their stuff. Here is my idea: A group of merchants start new characters, meaning you have 25gp as a start. Then you start the games and they go out to see who can make the most money the fastest. Pretty simple. For landmarks along the way maybe you would have rewards. Landmarks might include: First to 1k First to 10k First to buy full Rune Here's the rub though, is it possible to ensure that people don't cheat? Would top merchants care to participate? For the cheating thing I can think of only one way to limit it. If the game required a log of how you got the money. Killed goblins for 3 hours and made 400gp? Record that. Bought water runes for 4gp each and merchanted at 20? Write that down too. I think that this would be resonably preventative. It might not stop people from getting their friend to buy things at a umm... slightly "inflated" price, but it would help. Realistically how many people of high levels would buy the 6 water runes you can buy with that 25gp . This coupled with close inspection of these record might help cutail cheating. The second question is a little more difficult. I know that I would find an activity like this fun, but would others? Merchants out there, would you be up for a game like this? What kind of rewards would you want? If you don't want to publicly say that you would participate PM me, I know some of you are a bit reclusive when it come to your money. Let me know what you think. If you have suggestions on ways to limit the cheating possible let me know. I think that it could be a fun activity, something a little different. EDIT: I forgot to mention that there would be any real limitations to be in the game. All one owuld have to do is show a reasonable knowledge of merchanting, I doubt that there would be any entry fees or anything like that to enter. ~SDK
  13. 1-18 Spent wandering around getting pked left and right. 19-50 trained hard, pker remanded to the wilderness woo!! 50 - 70 training combat sucked, went merchant, made lots o cash, quit couple months after herblore came out 70 - just started back, not sure I have a focus, merchanting a bit, training combat a bit, mining a little too. Exploring the myriad of new areas and items that exist now.
  14. People have always complained about noobs, to think that the problem is worse now than in the past is foolish. There are a lot more worlds today, so obviously the total number of people acting like twits has increased quite a bit. To be fair I would say that the percentage of noobs is close to the same, except if you are on world 1 . I started just before wildy came out, I was about lvl 18 then "Whats my level", it might have not been as bad back then as they could just kill you if your level was close enough. ~SDK
  15. I think that in general the improvements were good. However, I think that they may have gone a bit overboard with some things e.g. white buildings... soo many logs at village etc. I like the redesign of the walk from fally to barb vill and the big gates on fally.
  16. first and greatest merchanter?

    Autoing

I see lots of people complaining about people using macros. I agree, it sucks, the fact that this is simply a game and people ruin the fun is no good. It has been pervasive for as long as I can remember and now there are posts upon posts about how they are affecting the economy, ruining the fun. Jagex has to do something about this... why aren't they stopping these people? I have to tell you that I think they are doing the best they can. Lets start from the basics. Jagex recently banned 15,000 users for using autoers and macros. I think this is a start. Sure there are millions of players, this is but a small percentage, but its something. These actions show that at least something is currently being done to try and catch these people. Now, that is all well and good, but here is where I get interested. They need to catch more you say. This is simply not enough! Well I respond with a simple question. How? Runescape as you know is a game written is java. Pretty impressive if you ask me. But like all programming languages it has limitations. And please, please don't forget, we are talking about a highly replicated system with over 100,000 simulataneous users from all over the world. My knowledge of autoing is limited, but as I go to school for this sort of thing, I can make some educated gueses. As far as I can tell there are two basic forms avilable. The first is rather inocuous, text macros. A program simulates key strokes at a certain speed for x number of times. People will use this to say things like "flash2:wave:============Selling Phat set 150k============" (ok maybe not for 150k, but a guy can dream can't he?) No one cares too much about these, unless you are trying to sell something in varrock on server 1. The second type would be a mouse macro. A program that manipulates the mouse movement and performs actions for that person in Runescape. This is IT this is the bane of all our pixelated existances. Now, we can't know for sure how Jagex detects people using a macro, but we can safely assume that it is largely based on pattern analyzation. They see someone doing the same thing over and over, for hours on end, everyday, for a month. We can safely assume an autoer. The creation of efficient programs able to respong to random event, deal with mini-map coloration changes, and do advanced actions is somewhat complex. There aren't too many good ones avilable. Once they find a certain pattern that could be associated with a single program, it wouldn't been too difficult to put safeguards in place to catch them. The thing is, that a good macro will be able to be customized to the point that it is hard to automatically recognize. Here is the problem. If you loop and action, put enough variations in it and there isn't any way they will ever catch it. How can you keep logs on that many users? There are limitations in the tolerance of the programming language. You simply cannot catch everyone. So, I'm looking fora couple thing. The first is a somewhat intelligent conversation regarding this matter. Second, do you have a solution? An idea for a soulution; tell us! Finally, what am I missing with the macro thing, types I've missed, statements I made that are patently wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. Oh one more thing could we leave out the flames? The more you learn about these programs, the more you will understand how hard it is to deal with them. Stop complaining about these people and playing the game, eventually they will get what they deserve. ~SDK
  19. I just got my two roomates hooked... maybe I should start looking for new ones now.
  20. How much do you think there is?
  21. Unfortunate as it may be, you are all wrong. The smithers and the buyers had nothing to do with it. The smithers wanted to keep the items exclusive. The buyers couldn't do anything about that. The smithers gave the items out to their friends and sold a handful to people at high prices e.g. 1200 steel bars. The items were all very exclusive until... a duper managed to get their hands on the items and duplicate them many times. This lead to more sales of the items and forced to smithers to get in on the action or lose a lot of xp/gp. That was why bluerose was so upset about the whole situation. Someone who did no work at all flooded the market when it took so long to get to that level. ~SDK
