Yes, it's okay to have a .gif file. In fact, GIFs are my favorite, and good for siggys without a ton of colors.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plus, they're compressed slightly better than JPGs are. JPGs are used mainly for photographs, landscapes, and the like.
