Kilo_Ali
I think there should be a place where you can select if you want the profanity to be blocked out or if you want to here it all..
Kierte
But say an 8-year-old creates an account, and lies about his age, so he hears all the profanity? My opinion has always been that the filter exists largely to protect young children, but of course, they want to hear all the "bad things" that people are going to say. How could you be sure of someone's age? It's an online game. I hate the filter sometimes, but I think it should stay in place, period. (Although changing some of what they have filtered would be great...)

badphooeybad
Why would it be members only........ And sometimes the filter is stupid. It blocks out things that are not bad words....
Shadd
I think this should be a members only ability. Lol, so you have to be a member to curse freely about the lands and don't get reported for doing so? Funniest idea I've ever seen. Swearing is bad anyway, it's almost as bad as smoking.....which is hard to quit habit.
harper128
Actually, I agree that turning off the censor, or turning it down, should start as a members ability. At least for those who pay with a credit card, they should be able to set the censor filter at that point and password protect it if they wish. That way, an adult, who is paying for it themselves may shut off the profanity filter if they wish, but a younger player, who is having their parents pay for it would not. Of course, their parents could simply give the child the card/number to input themselves, but, if that is the case, the parent apparently believes that their child is responsible enough to be given access to that information, correct? In any case, once the password is set up, it should be accessible from the game options section, even if you go back to f2p. Yes, this does mean that I could pay for only one month of membership to get access to these controls, but by having paid for it, I have used a method to show that I am an adult, or the adult that did pay for it is able to set up the password. Now, shutting off your filter does not mean that what you say will not be filtered by others, just that what you see will not be filtered. Keeps you from spamming vulgarities in front of the kiddies, but they can do it to you. Not sure if I made much sense, lets see what you guys have to say about it. Runescape is a family game, if JaGeX allowed profanity to be used then runescape goes down the drain and less and less parents would allow their children to play. That causes all hell for JaGeX, who I might save has come a long ways.

SirHartlar
I can't even see why anybody would WANT the filter to go, other than the fact that it does block words or phrases which aren't rude. If the filter was removed, the games already fragile atmosphere would shatter under the angry cries of a thousand people. It would simply not be a pleasant place to be. You would no longer be able to sort out disputes in a fair manner because there would be someone who would start mouthing their heads off. While many people are mature enough to cope with this sort of language, I feel it is better for the game to maintain some dignity.

lordzola
i agree that the filter is dumb. I mean the word [bleep] isnt used offensivly it is used to shorten the word come. Why should this be censored? I agree with having the option to turn it off or maybe have different setting like off mild moderate strict
PrinceC
I think the filter should stay non-opinional
zyrm
people always find ways around the filter so its really just there for parents to think that their children are safe and not hearing profanity and blah blah blah i mean we all know what a person means when the say fuack, next we need the filter to block out the loopholes [omg] who cares if its nerfed or fixed.... you people will argue over the color of a green apple if it was a topic on this fourm god. Gurken_495
Then theyll be blocking out wth and all the abbreviations, so you cant say with but you can say esex... No really you can say esex Less little kids toddling around!!! Only a good thing Little kids make up round 70% of RSes population so then all the profits are gone and poof GAME OVER
Hypnotic_tapeworm
id love to see the filter abolished.. however so many kids play it just wont happend, and as someone said they could just lie about their age... then their mum looks over their shoulder and see's someone chatting real filth and thats it they cant play the game anymore, then she could tell her friends whos children play rs and they wont be allowed to play anymore... it would be hell for jagex.... if you wanna swear just verbally beat people on msn :) EDIT: but jagex really should lookin into their filter system because it is a bit annoying, i cant remember any examples but it annoys me how it cencors a word purely because it has a few letters considerd dirty or rude by the filter... but the word isnt rude at all (if that makes sence lol)
