not alot i dont think but battle staffs hit more powerfully when meleeing with them and they may have a slight magic advantage over normal magic staffs.

battlestaffs that have been enchanted by thorax?? from scorpion catcher quest hit with the same stats as a rune longsword. It costs 40k gp to enchant them

and the aforementioned enchanted battlestaff becomes known as a mystic staff
