High Alchemy - Three "globes" of yellow light appear one after the other, and three chimes sound when each yellow globe appears.

 

 

 

Low Alchemy - High Alchemy divided by 3.

The animations are different. High alch flashes 3 times, low alch once. Can't really explain better. You could just try it out ingame. Low alch basically gets the general store price I think, high alch gets the specific shop price, assuming they're both out of stock that is. High alch is 50% more cash, theres no reason to low alch at all, same number of runes (1 nature) when you have a fire staff.
