May 10, 200620 yr Later this week I'm going to go to pick up some materials to set up a 4 box system link. I've been looking and haven't been able to find anything about an advantage for having a hub or a switch, doe anyone know anything about that? Right now I'm looking at 1*Switch 4*25' Cables Anything recommended? (I'll probably be restricted to Best Buy/Circuit City, since they're in the same general region) (Price shouldn't be too big of a deal, as it's going to be split 8+ ways) I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
May 10, 200620 yr might wanna get 50' 25' may seem like enough, but trust me.. even for a small house.. its not. just a suggestion. as for a switch, no idea. i use a Microsoft MN-100 router, works fine
May 10, 200620 yr Author Houses are just a little rowded for us to use. Right now we're looking at more of a shed/barn environment :P I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
May 12, 200620 yr Author I just got a computer accessory catalog, and it looks like it might be a lower price to buy 250 feet of cat6 (that would be the one I want, right?) cables and get a crimping tool with the plugs :P I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.
May 15, 200620 yr Yeah, it's cheaper to make your own cables. It's actually a lot cheaper for me, but maybe that's just because my friend has like 2,000 feet of cat5 cable. :D (Don't know why, but his uncle just gave it to him). It was cheaper for me to buy a crimping tool and plugs than to buy 1 15' cat5! So, yeah, make your own.
