Router Problems..

I have two computers, one of them is directly hooked up to my router, which is hooked up to my modem, which is hooked up to my phone line.

 

My other computer is wirelessly connected to the router.

 

 

 

About three weeks ago on a Monday, I logged in to play RS on the computer that is wirelessly connected. The phone rang. As usual when the phone rings, it blocks the signal of my internet and so I got disconnected. But unlike usual, when I tried to reconnect, it didn't work.

 

 

 

I go downstairs, and talk to my brother. He can't connect to his Xbox Live either. The Xbox is connected to the router as well.

 

 

 

The internet of the computer connected directly to the router doesn't work anymore either.

 

 

 

The odd thing is, that the connection on my wireless computer says it's working. But when I try to open a web page or anything at all, it just doesn't work.

 

 

 

Right now I'm on the internet by connecting my computer to the modem instead of the router.

 

 

 

Is there a way to fix my router? Or is it my computer that's messing up?

From what it sounds like (you have xbox live) I think you have DSL

When the phone rings, it disconnects my wireless internet connection of my computer upstairs. It doesn't block the Xbox Live or the computer that's actually hooked up to the router (downstairs).

It sounds to me like you don't have interference filters for your DSL. They are small adapters that you snap in between your phone jack and your telephone to keep the signals seperate, so that using the phone doesn't interrupt your DSL. If you had a proffesional install there should be filters installed already, so I assume you did the self-install. You (or whoever installed it) probably forgot to add the interference filters. A few interference filters should have came with your DSL, so see if you still have them. If you don't have any you should be able to pick a couple up at Radioshack:

Hook one out of every phone jack that you use, except for the jack with the DSL. If you use a phone from the telephone cable that can come out of the DSL then add a filter from the phone out jack on your DSL modem also.

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway about the wireless thing, try disabling and re-enabling the wireless connection on your second computer. If that doesn't help you can reboot your DSL modem with the software the phone company gave you.

You dont have a filter between the phone and the phone kack in the wall.

 

 

 

The signals are interupting each other a filter on each phone will resolve this problem.

 

 

 

as for your wirelessly connected computer when it says the connection is established what it means is that its talking to the router sucsessfully but since the router cant talk to the internet you wont beable to load anything.
