June 24, 200620 yr It was introduced by jagex as a counter measure to stop macro'ers, basically the jist of it is : There are 2 essences, Normal and Pure. Normal ones can ONLY be made into Air, Mind, Water, Earth, Fire and Body runes. Every other rune (combo or higher levels) can only be done with a pure essence. Pure essence however can be used for lower level runes.
