tuhdude
ok i first joined rs about 3 years ago. i player for a couple months and then we got this virus. it screwed up our comp and my dad decided to blame rs for it. i wasnt all that into at the time so i didn't really mind quiting all that much. but we have a new computer and now 3 years later i've got an acount up to lvl 70 and i can't even imagine what it would be like to not get on rs anymore. but our comp (our bad we actualy have 2) has got another virus. and my dad again wants to blame rs. he says i can't get on at all... i think he is just angry has no idea whats wrong with the computer and is picking the first thing he can to blame it on. for starters that computer just got a bunch of new programs on it and so it would make sence if one of them might have a problem. and our other computer has never had any trouble with rs at all! so basicly i'm not aloud on rs because my dad wants to blame rs. so i am begging anyone who knows anything about viruses that rs can cause or if anything like this has happened you or anything that would help me convince him to let me on again! please someone help me PKERS CAN ALL BE DAMNED TO HELL! Nadril
Runescape can not cause a virus, pure and simple. There are what, hundred of thousands of people playing runescape each day? If it realy could atribute to some sort of virus i'm sure a lot more people would relate to it. Explain to him that. Anyways, just scan with an anti virus and get rid of it (i'm sure that since you know you have one you rid of it, right?). The only thing that could be atributed to runescape as a virus would perhaps be from Illegal third-party programs for it, but that's just if you decided to download one to try it out. Other than that, you realy only could have gotten the virus by downloading something. Do you use Internet explorer? (i'm fairly sure you do). I would try and convince your dad to using Firefox, it's a lot safer when it comes to protecting your self from virus's.

weezcake
Someone must have been to a bad website or opened an infected file on your computer. If you have an anti-virus and are using Firefox, most likely it is the latter. Runescape does not cause viruses or install spyware of any sort onto your computer. Try uninstalling the programs that you did not install. Then, scan with your anti-virus and the spyware scanners listed below: AdAware Spybot S&D Hopefully the scanners will pick everything up and get rid of it. If not, please says so -- we'll be here to help! :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
Ard_Choille
I realize this is a different scenario. But I'll share it to point out that in many cases, the problem is easily fixed. The long and the short of it is...if you keep your anti-virus program running and run FULL system scans (anti-virus, spyware, adware) at least weekly, these things will be RARE. Pay attention to odd behavior when you are browsing, stop everything and run a scan if something questionable happens. -------------------------------- On three separate occasions, clicking "Play" using the Windows Client available on the RuneScape site has executed Trojan.ByteVerify. When I click the play button, it triggers a full-sized white window which requires that I "end task" to close the barrage of nonsense that pops up. (Classic example of odd behavior) Of course, I immediately run NAV to find the problem. In all three cases, Trojan.ByteVerify was found in up to five files in the Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar folder and were fixed instantly by NAV. I hope yours is as easily fixed as mine have been. - - My deviantART Page - -
