You have to organize your participants so that you get the maximum benefit from each of their skills. When it comes to something like abstract brushing the way you guys did it, that is usually better left to one person. For instance, if you were to get somebody who made killer landscapes, somebody who made killer spacescapes, and somebody who could balance/organize/design the final piece, then you might get something. But passing an image around and tweaking it each time is more like photoshop tennis than a colab... Beauty is upon the eye of the beholder, and between 4 people the message is often lost. I agree that the quality of a lot of the work here isn't the best and can be way overrated at times, but no one here considers themselves amazing or professional.
